    Reporting to the General Manager, the Health and Fitness Programs Director (Adult Programs) will be an integral part of the senior leadership team, playing a leadership role in implementing standards of Service Excellence (EYE, SAM and Cleaning Audits) to ensure the delivery of high quality service to members. The Health and Fitness Programs Director (Adult Programs) provides leadership to a team of staff and volunteers who must deliver high quality programs and services to members, focusing on the achievement of their personal health and wellness goals.

    In this role, you will:

  • Develops, promotes, plans and implements all dry land programs offered by the Health and Fitness facility, including Group Fitness, Individual Conditioning and Personal Training; provides significant hands on direct program leadership to a variety of program areas and leads by example, building relationships with members.
  • Gives personal leadership to case management approach to new and existing members, utilizing the mYfitness Program.
  • Develops and monitors departmental budget and maintains accountability, responsibility and control for the departmental fiscal goals; achieves Member Retention Targets and stated Priority SAM standards and satisfaction results.
  • Supervises Group Fitness, dryland and aquafit staff: including recruitment and selection, training and development scheduling work, acknowledging contributions; performance management including discipline; provides guidance to volunteers.
  • Provides leadership and support as a member of the Centre senior staff team. Acts as an effective Acting General Manager as required, demonstrating maturity and sound decision making on behalf of the General Manager.
  • Participates in task groups, special assignments and opportunities that further the Association mission, vision and strategic initiatives including the Core Service Functional Group.
  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
  • Ensures the health, safety and well-being of all children, youth and vulnerable people in YMCA programs. Commits to the professional responsibility of maintaining knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures, child and youth development and best practices to best serve and protect children, youth, and vulnerable people.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • You bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field
  • Personal Training certification is an asset
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills developed through 2 to 3 years progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role with health and fitness professionals; ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate contributions
  • Experience developing and leading staff training: including coaching and evaluation
  • Ability to lead Group Fitness classes
  • Recruiting and training volunteers in the respective department
  • Current NLS Certification an asset
  • Experience using CLASS, including program registrations, reports, etc. an asset
  • Proficiency with computer software including Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including days, evenings and weekends;
