    Job Duties
  • The NRT Lab Technologist is responsible for understanding, anticipating and satisfying the client's needs. This can include a variety of duties such as technical, organizational supervisory, and communication skills in order to manage the operations in the NRT area.

Duties include:

  • Installation, set up, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of instruments and specimens.
  • Preparation of equipment/tools for labs and field exercises, and assisting instructors with the use and demonstration of equipment to ensure safe operating procedures at all times. (Aquatic sampling, fisheries equipment, wildlife equipment, enforcement tools, GPS)
  • Enforces lab/field safety ensuring students and staff follow proper safety procedures.
  • Transportation of students to camps as required.
  • Recommendations, specifications and purchasing of supplies and field equipment, the maintenance of inventory and computerized inventory record database systems.
  • Contacting suppliers/manufacturers to obtain information and pricing for the required field equipment and lab supplies. (ability to negotiate the best pricing in order to maximize the department budget).
  • Demonstrates and/or assists in lab and field instruction.
  • Identifying areas of improvement within the NRT program.
  • Promotes constructive and efficient working relationship with students, instructional staff and other institute personnel.
  • Provide instruction to students of certain courses learning outcomes, as designated by the Program Head. Evaluation and grading of assigned learning outcomes. Design and develop curriculum for specified courses.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

  • 1. Technologist diploma in programrelevant field or equivalent apprenticelevel combination of education and experience.
  • Member of/or eligible for certification with relevant certifying body, such as Technology Professionals Saskatchewan (TPS) as an Applied Science Technologist or Certified Technician.
  • Experience with program-relevant software and equipment and their integration,
  • Effective interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including planning, scheduling, and prioritizing workloads in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong data and records management skills with a digital focus.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many diverse groups, including other departments within Saskatchewan Polytechnic, staff, faculty, and industry stakeholders.
