Position Summary

YELLOWHEAD COUNTY AREA VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT PROGRAM

Reporting to the assigned Fire Captain/Lieutenant, the Volunteer Firefighter is responsible for the delivery of fire and rescue services for Yellowhead County from the assigned fire station.

Under the general direction of the assigned Fire Captain/Lieutenant, the Volunteer Firefighter will be required to carry out assigned duties and tasks at emergency incidents and regular station duties.

Position Responsibilities
Advises Fire Captain/Lieutenant of concerns arising out of normal duties, including training, equipment and operations;
Obeys all Yellowhead County Policies and Administrative Directives, regulations and standards;
Executes all tasks assigned by a supervisor and those of a higher rank or qualifications;
Trains to stay proficient in firefighting techniques and emergency medical services, and provides such when required;
Maintains equipment, facility and apparatus to achieve a desired state of readiness;
Works within Fire Department rank structure;
Responds to emergent situations as assigned, carries out orders and direction as assigned based on strategic goals and tactical objectives; and

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Class 5 Drivers License;
Able to provide a negative criminal reference check with vulnerable sector; and

Ability to deal effectively with the general public and volunteers.

Working environment:

Work is conducted in a combination of office environment, fire station environment and field/outdoor environment, depending on the task being performed;
Emergency response duties are conducted under all weather, environmental and road conditions during any time of the day or night and may be for extended periods of time;
A high degree of physical effort is required in providing emergency services and in obtaining the desired training;
Field work involves strenuous activities involving regular lifting of objects up to 20kgs or fire department equipment exceeding 20kgs; and

Attendance at evening and weekend meetings and training sessions will be required.
