Salary:
$32-44/hr based on experience


Position type:
One-year term, 7-14hrs per week.


Job location:9010 West Saanich Road, North Saanich BC.

Pauquachin First Nation is an Indigenous community on the west side of the Saanich Peninsula.

The Opportunity

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with language program staff to develop culturally appropriate language curriculum, learning materials, and teaching methods that reflect the traditions and values of the Pauquachin First Nation.
  • Provide cultural guidance and support to language program participants, including students, teachers, and community members.
  • Facilitate cultural workshops and activities to promote the use of the Pauquachin language and deepen the understanding of the cultural significance of the language.
  • Conduct research and engage with community members to identify and preserve traditional language and cultural practices.
  • Provide input and advice on language program policies and procedures that impact cultural aspects of the program.
  • Collaborate with other departments and programs within the Pauquachin First Nation to integrate cultural teachings into community events and activities.
  • Attend language program meetings and contribute to program planning and evaluation.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of language assessments to measure language acquisition and proficiency.
  • Support language program staff in designing and implementing effective strategies for language retention and revitalization.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of language program records and reports.
  • Act as a liaison between the language program and the Pauquachin First Nation community.
  • Maintain professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and training sessions related to language and cultural revitalization.

What we require from you

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Pauquachin First Nation culture, language, and traditions.
  • Fluency in the Hul'q'umi'num' language is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Experience in delivering culturally relevant programming and resources.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community or organization, preferably in a language or cultural capacity.
  • Experience delivering language and cultural programming.
  • Experience working with Elders and other knowledge keepers.
