    Job Description

    A Geotechnical Instrumentation Engineer for the Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel project is an interdisciplinary role in heavy civil engineering and geotechnical engineering. The primary responsibility of this Office-field role is to assist the I&M Manager in installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting geo-structural instrumentation and monitoring systems used for the different construction faces of project. These systems measure and monitor various geotechnical and structural parameters in real-time, such as ground movements, deformations, stresses, loads, noise, and vibrations.

    The specific job duties of a Geotechnical Instrumentation Engineer may include:

    1. Conducting site visits to plan and determine the appropriate tools and equipment required for specific instrumentation installations
    2. Installing instrumentation and monitoring systems in accordance with project specifications and requirements
    3. Leading the field works for installing sensors, including strain gauges, tiltmeters, inclinometers, SAAV, MPBX, piezometers, and other monitoring devices and data acquisition systems
    4. Good understanding of subcontractors' contracts and responsibilities and assisting I&M Manager with progress payments
    5. Comprehension of Contractual I&M requirements from our client
    6. Providing technical support to the construction team and training instrumentation technicians
    7. Installation, configuration, and maintenance of dataloggers and accessories: Modems, interfaces, multiplexors, antennas, signal cables, solar panels, and batteries to ensure that data is collected correctly and without interruptions
    8. Coordinate to perform Manual readings, download/record data, and prepare factual reports, summaries, data sheets, or graphs to assist the instrumentation specialist with data interpretation linked to construction processes
    9. Providing technical recommendations for modifications and repairs to instrumentation and monitoring systems
    10. Communicating effectively with engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders on issues or works relating to monitoring and instrumentation and participating in site and staff planning and safety meetings
    11. Help maintain databases of instrumentation records, calibration certificates of instruments and unit readouts, equipment manuals, and applicable standards
    12. Handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships with all subcontractors, CA prime representatives, and stakeholders
    13. Performing other related duties as required and maintaining a working knowledge of current instrumentation technology and trends in the industry
    14. Executing diligently prescribed company technical procedures, safe work, environmental practices, and work plans

    Qualifications

    At least 5 years of experience working on heavy civil construction projects
    Experience in geo-structural instrumentation and monitoring systems
    P.Eng or ability to acquire within one year
    Good understanding of drilling works and drilling subcontractor management
    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
    Strong technical writing skills, and ability to present information concisely and clearly in reports
    Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    Ability to handle multi-tasking and maintain focus in a busy workplace
    Good understanding of local Occupational Health and Safety Policies and regulations
    Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
    Must be available on occasion to work evenings, nights, and weekends to meet project needs
    Ability to provide innovative solutions, problem-solve, and tackle new assignments effectively and efficiently
