About Western:

Since 1878, Western University has been committed to serving our communities through the pursuit of academic excellence and by providing students, faculty, and community members with life-long opportunities for intellectual, social, and cultural growth.

We seek excellent students, faculty, and staff to join us in what has become known as the "Western Experience" - an opportunity to contribute to a better world through the development of new knowledge, new abilities, new connections, and new ways to make a difference.

About Us:

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centre's.

The faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing educates nurses who are reflective practitioners and provides recognized leadership in nursing research, theory, practice, and policy advancements.

Our research programs seek to develop knowledge capable of enhancing health equity by transforming practice, services, education and policies that affect health and wellbeing across the lifespan.

Research programs reflect 5 overlapping areas of strength:
Women's Health; Violence, Gender and Health; Digital Health; Mental Health; and Global and Indigenous Health.

Course Information:

This professional practice course consists of an orientation session and five on-campus (simulated) professional practice sessions, allowing students to develop understanding of the trajectory of mental health challenges as they work with an assigned client experiencing a mental health illness.

During each session, students will work in groups of four to provide care for a client facing a mental health challenge.

Each day, two students in the group will assume the role of the nurse, interviewing the client, while the others will observe and record.

Learning activities and client information will be posted so that all students can conduct client research and be prepared to interact in a therapeutic manner.

This experience will provide opportunity to gain knowledge and skill in working collaboratively with clients experiencing a mental health concern.

Students will have the opportunity to further develop communication and assessment skills that transcend all client care situations.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Qualifications:

In accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, experience, and qualifications, including qualifications which go beyond the requirements for the position.

Applicants should have fluent written and oral communication skills in English.

Western Values Diversity:

Please Note:

Effective September 7, 2021, all employees and visitors to campus are required to comply with Western's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
