Reporting to the Senior Director Finance, Corporate, the Manager Finance -Insurance & Risk will serve as a business partner to corporate teams, responsible for handling end to end insurance matters, including claims handling, management, cost tracking, budgeting, forecasting, accurate and timely accounting, and reporting, while ensuring that the company's policies are being followed.


This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.

Accountabilities

Insurance placement- Review coverage proposals for renewal of all lines of insurance coverage, and when required, additional insurance programs in response to changing business needs;- Work with insurance brokers to identify appropriate retentions and limits for all insurance programs;- Evaluate and present insurance/risk exposure underwriting data for submission and discussion with insurance brokers and underwriters for placement of insurance programs;


Claim management- Conduct periodic claim reviews with insurance carriers, brokers and business units for workers' compensation claims, general and professional liability claims/suits, etc.- Assist in identifying trends and areas of concern to recommend remediation of any identified problems areas;- Maintain and analyze property and liability loss activity.

- Communicate with Operations, legal, and teams on projected losses, pending claims and potential litigation;

Accounting and Analysis- Prepare annual insurance premium budgets including analysis of insurance values and policies' open/closed reserves. Determine premium allocation methodologies with other department members for allocation of premiums to business by line of coverage;- Review trends in operations and advise management of applicable insurance programs and/or review safety/loss prevention recommendations to avoid recurrence;- Provide direction to operations on risk management activities, including policy development;- Review contracts to assure reasonable insurance responsibilities are addressed in conjunction with hold harmless and indemnification contract provisions;

Leadership- Collaborate with business stakeholders and other finance team members to support the accounting and reporting process- Leverage financial, business, and accounting knowledge to drive process improvements and create efficiencies- Manage internal and external auditors' requests where required and as directed- Support organization changes in an effective and efficient manner- Manage special projects, ad-hoc analysis and prepare reports as required

Qualifications and Experience- Bachelor's degree or completion of post-secondary program specific to insurance and risk management- Must have a minimum five (5) years' related experience (risk management, insurance carrier, broker), with preference for brokerage experience- Industry relevant certifications (CIP, CRM) preferred but not required- Proficient in preparing presentations- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative)- Effective oral, written and communication skills
