Celebrating our 8th year in Summer Camp operations, Rooks to Cooks is GTA's leading culinary school for children.

We recognize that learning new skills, especially cooking, can be intimidating; that's why we build our programs to be fun, inviting, as well as intensive.

Our programs and services always emphasize themes of healthy eating and teach our students how to live a fulfilling healthy life.

Our mission is to empower our students to become more independent and self-sufficient while helping them to find their voice and build self-confidence through learning how to cook/bake.


Ramping up our efforts to ensure our campers have a memorable summer, we are currently recruiting Camp Counsellors AKA "The fun police" for our campsites.

These are full-time positions working 40 hours per week (occasional overtime may be required) for the duration of the summer, from the beginning of July to the end of August, with some sites starting the last week of June.

Reporting to the Lead Chef, the Camp Counsellor is an integral part of the team, responsible for managing all break time activities, leading all morning and afternoon huddles, and ensuring all campers have a fun, safe, and educational summer A full list of the responsibilities is below;


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Support lead chef in building and maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment for campers and staff
  • Help define and reinforce camp rules and expectations
  • Execute break time activities, arts and crafts, games and team building exercises, as outlined in the Activities Lead manual, with high energy and enthusiasm
  • Supervise and support campers to ensure their safety and accurate execution of the recipes on hand
  • Deliver large group and small group instruction
  • Follow and execute daily prep requirements as defined by the sous chef
  • Respond and react professionally to all incidents
  • Build authentic relationships with campers and their families
  • Be a Rooks to Cooks brand ambassador
  • Support Kitchen Assistant in the execution of cleanliness standards, as per Company policy
  • Ensure campers are well fed and kept hydrated throughout day
  • Assist campers and team with all aspects of the Friday night Pop up restaurant
  • Be able to stand for extended periods
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:


  • 4+ years experience working with children in a professional or summer camp environment
  • Passion for food and experience cooking meals
  • Some experience using all kitchen tools and knives
  • 1+ years of experience working in a summer camp environment
  • Current Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) student or graduate (or a related degree) and some experience teaching would be considered an asset
  • Work experience in the culinary industry is an asset
  • Sensitive, empathetic, and sympathetic personality to accommodate all behaviour personalities of our campers
  • Organized, detailoriented, and punctual
  • Proactive, reliable, and safety conscious
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Great sense of humour

Required Qualifications:


  • Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Food Handlers Certificate
