About the Position:


Reporting to the Vice President, Construction, the Construction Coordinator is responsible for providing support to the Walters Field Services Division (WFS) by ensuring accurate information on time.

This includes assisting in Pre-Construction Preparation, planning, and Tracking/Reporting 'Work in Progress' - as well as recommending areas for efficiency and improvement in collaboration with Walters project team and Construction Manager.


Main responsibilities will include:

  • Document Control for WFS assigned projects (technical, site sequencing, and reporting)
  • Travels to project sites to support WFS Superintendent(s) and ensure project site administration is being completed accurately and to address project site concerns, technical challenges, etc. as required to achieve a timely project handover.
  • Build detailed project steel erection schedules in MS Project.
  • Create and develop site logistics plans, drawings, crane plans and rigging studies, etc. using 3D Lift Planner and Tekla.
  • Produces weekly labour cost reports (LCR) and monitors progress benchmarking the actuals against the estimates.
  • Responds to questions and concerns from our Project Site teams in timely manner by providing recommendations and/or collaborating with the Walters project team to seek the solutions to construction and technical challenges, etc.
  • Train and mentor project site teams with SOP's, construction progress tracking, QC management and coordination, etc.
  • Assist, coordinate and support Walters project field surveyor(s).
  • Provides WFS construction engineer with accurate and complete drawings for approval process and maintain the related file, (WFS Drawings, Detail Drawings for Fabrication, Client views) as required.
  • Assist with managing WFS construction equipment and temporary works including detailing and fabrication of in collaboration with WFS Equipment Manager, Construction Manager and Construction Team.
  • Responds to equipment and resource inquiries by Walters Engineering, Production, Sales, and Field Stores regarding project requirements in a timely manner and in collaboration with Walters Construction Engineers.

Work Location:


  • Hamilton, ON. (Head Office) and designated work sites.

Position Requirements:


  • Completion of an Architectural Technology program or Construction related Engineering program.
  • Ability to travel to Project Sites on regular basis or as required to support Walters project site team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Works independently and takes ownership of project oriented specific tasks.
  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of construction experience with exposure to structural steel erection and/or fabrication, construction QC and construction site surveying/layout.
  • Valid drivers' license.

Skills, Knowledge and Competency Requirements:

  • Knowledge in structural steel fabrication and erection industry standard practices.
  • Knowledge of Construction Safety and H&S Legislation.
  • Understanding construction project scheduling practices.
  • General knowledge of cranes, construction, and steel erecting equipment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to be flexible, multitask and prioritize effectively in a fastpaced environment.
  • Strong Organization Skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Interpersonal Skills working in a team environment.
  • A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively and professionally with coworkers and other associates within Walters team and with General Contractors, equipment suppliers in a collegial, fast paced work environment.
