Reporting to the Investigator Team Lead, you will undertake investigations pursuant to the Public Security Peace Office Program and Peace Officer Act, and the Security Services and Investigators Act (SSIA).

You will work with stakeholders to provide oversight, direction, and advice to ensure that effective government oversight of these programs is exercised.


Your key responsibilities will include:
Conducting professional standards and criminal background checks on applicants, investigations and appeal investigations in relation to public complaints and employer identified code of conduct and policy violations;

  • Conducting compliance audits on licensed private investigator and security guard agencies (SSIA) and peace officer (PO) agencies, as well as site visits throughout Alberta;
  • Advising and supporting the agencies participating under the legislation;
  • Auditing registered business to ensure their complying under the SSIA;
  • Review of complaints from license business or authorized employers under the code of conduct;
  • Auditing all Municipal Police Services who utilize Police photo radar


As this role works closely with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, you must have the ability to establish, foster and maintain professional working relationships.

You have strong time management and organizational skills in order to meet the required timelines. You demonstrate strong decision making abilities based on sound judgement and fairness. You are able to adapt both your verbal and written communication to fit the needs of your audience.


Qualifications:


A university degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement or related field plus two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience.

A minimum of least two (2) years of conducting investigations (such as, but not limited to criminal and/or regulatory) is also required.

Preference will be given to those with the following:

  • Experience in law enforcement
  • Experience conducting interviews with witnesses and/or suspects
  • Experience composing analytical legal correspondence and/or reports
  • Experience interpreting legislation, policy and/or procedures
  • Experience conducting audits for compliance
  • Working knowledge of the Criminal Code, Peace Officer Act, Body Armour Control Act, Security Services and Investigators Act and the 2021 Automated Traffic Enforcement Technology Guideline.


Equivalencies will be considered based on the following:1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Salary:

$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 - $88,682 per year)
