About the Organization

  • The Atlantic Research Center (ARC) is affiliated with the Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Pediatrics, Dalhousie University. The ARC is a large lab shared by 4 principle investigators that carry out research programs with a focus on lipid metabolism, cell signalling and cancer.

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician will provide technical support on a CIHRfunded research project that aims to identify mechanisms for fat synthesis and storage in the nucleus of mammalian cells.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments using fundamental biochemical techniques including SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, lipid separation, and mammalian cell culture
  • Image cells using light and immunofluorescence fluorescent microscopy.
  • Conduct radioisotope analysis of lipid synthesis.
  • Maintain lab records and inventories.
  • Oversee lab biosafety and radioisotope licenses.

Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications

  • MSc in Biochemistry, Biology or Microbiology.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques.

Assets

  • Prior practical and/or theoretical experience in lipid metabolism and analysis.
  • Familiarly with confocal microscopy and image analysis software (Imaris, ImageJ, Fuji).
