Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapist Assistant
The role of our Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) / Physiotherapy Assistant(PTA) will be to execute individualized treatment plans developed and supervised by a Registered Occupational / Physiotherapist Therapist.
Under the direct supervision, the OTA/PTA will:
- Administer programs developed by the OT to individual clients, or groups of clients such as feeding or dressing programs, cognitive groups, assistive device training, etc.;
- Assist patients with activities of daily living activities;
- Assist in group work;
- Assist in lifting and transferring patients as required;
- Assist the supervising physiotherapist in performing various components of the treatment plans for individuals;
- Perform various treatments as prescribed and directed by the supervising Physiotherapist including but not limited to gait training, balance exercises, transfer training, range of motion, strengthening, etc.;
- Deliver dynamic, safe and therapeutically beneficial exercise classes in a group setting;
- Maintain regular ongoing communication with the physiotherapist regarding any changes or concerns about a client's status or treatment interventions;
- Regularly inspect treatment spaces for cleanliness, safety and adequate supplies;
- Document on client charts as required;
- Document accurate workload statistics;
- Effectively communicate with clients and families, members of the interdisciplinary team, external agencies and vendors;
- In partnership with clients/families and the interdisciplinary team, provide client and familycentered care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented;
- Support and respect the client/family's rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences;
- Promote and support the physical, psychosocial and spiritual well being of clients and families;
- Collaborate with the client/family to plan, implement and evaluate care.
- Graduate from a recognized OTA/PTA program
- Experience in a Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care or Acute Care Hospital preferred
- Previous experience working in a healthcare setting under the direction of an OT an asset
- Demonstrated experience with geriatric, neurological and MSK conditions
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
- Effective verbal and written communication to successfully work with all stakeholders
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Rate:
$28.00 to $38.00 per hour

Part-time, days only

Saturday and Sunday

Scarborough (McCowan Road and Eglinton Avenue East), on public transit line
