About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager, Procurement or designate, the Buyer assists with the procurement needs in an assigned area of the commodities and/or services including inventory, planning, requisition, review, supplies selection, order placement, follow-up, complying with national and provincial Health Canada standards.

Under the Supply Chain Operations, the Buyer will exhibit sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Direction of the Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and incorporates into daily practice the core competencies and values of the organization.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 or GED required
  • Two (2) year postsecondary program in Business Administration or PMAC Certificate or an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Two (2) or more years' experience in a purchasing environment within a healthcare setting preferred
  • Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills within a customer service environment
  • Experience working with SAP Purchasing and Inventory modules an asset
  • Experience working within a team office environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inventory control and inventory replenishment within a healthcare setting an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical products and terminology an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) with the ability to perform accurate data entry, and the ability to acquire new computer skills as necessary
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, planning and organizational skills in a fastpaced environment
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health
  • Duties of the position include standing, sitting, keyboarding, telephone duties, dealing with stressful situations for timesensitive deadlines, working flexible hours as necessary and traveling within NSH and other areas as necessary
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
