Description

Shift details: 16 hours every second weekend

Schedule:


  • 7am 3 pm (every second weekend)
  • Create and maintain a positive professional relationship with residents to ensure that they are fully involved in all decisionmaking processes that affect their lives.
  • Monitors clients' wellbeing. Assists clients with daily life skills and/or behavior management training. Assists clients with basic cooking, housework, yard maintenance, etc.
  • Assists clients in attending appointments when necessary and may provide transportation.
  • Provides physical care as required, which could include bathing, toileting, dressing and feeding as necessary.
  • Support resident's in all aspects of the personal care ensuring the maintenance of their dignity and privacy at all times
  • Administer necessary medication to residents following appropriate training and assessment and to support individuals to selfmedicate where it has been assess safe to do so.
  • Encourage and facilitates the participation of individuals in the program. Create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to enhance the program's appeal to clients.
  • Recognize potential emergency situations, analyze situations accurately, and develop strategies to deal with such situations i.e. dispensing medication, dealing with client's aggressive behavior to ensure no harm comes to the client, staff and/or the public.
  • Observe residents to ensure that their physical and mental wellbeing is intact and report any significant changes
  • Review and evaluate clients' progress and makes adjustments to programs as required. Provides feedback and support to fellow staff and clients.

Additional Expectations

  • Participates alongside the individuals being supported. Taking part in activities such as swimming, bowling, and outdoor activities inclement weather.
  • Attend team, agency and committee meetings as schedule permits.
  • Promotes individual empowerment and independence by offering choices, teaching selfadvocacy, and problem solving skills. Update and maintain knowledge regarding community resources and activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with clients, coworkers, guardians, Community Service Coordinators, residential agencies, volunteer placements, and all stakeholders.
  • Provide emotional support to individuals to assist them in expressing their feelings, desires, and frustrations.
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards and practices at all times.
  • Be an active team member and remain open to suggestions. Empower team members through positive feedback and utilizing strengths and expertise. Participate in the facilitation of change, transition, and conflict resolution with individuals and team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to the daily operation of Cosmos Community Support Services Ltd. This may include, but not be limited to, working in other departments including the depots to assist in the delivery of quality service.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary education in Human Services or in a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year' experience in a related field.

The preferred qualifications include the following:

  • In addition to the basic qualifications required, a Diploma or equivalent formal education in a relevant discipline; preferably, augmented by specialized training and progressively more responsible experience in a relevant discipline/setting.
  • A practical, working understanding of relevant general and organization specific policies, procedures, operational protocols, legislation, professional codes of ethics and guidelines, contract terms and conditions, and other practice guidelines.
  • A general understanding of the broader range of community resources available to support the individual's participation and inclusion, and an understanding of how and when they may be accessed; and, the ability to interact effectively with others in the individual's social network.

  • Reliable Vehicle
  • First Aid and CPR certification Preferred
  • Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention Training Preferred

Work Ethic Expectations:


  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Occasional work outside business hours.
  • Ability to work under mínimal supervision.
