Description

Live and Work in Beautiful Wolfville as Inn Manager
The Locust & Starr Inn is a well-established all-suites inn located in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Wolfville is located in the heart of the Annapolis Valley which is renowned for wineries, orchards, cultural events, and Acadia University.

The Annapolis Valley is busiest during the tourism season which runs in the summer and fall period.

During the winter and spring periods, demand for accommodation relates to special events, weekend getaways, or activities related to Acadia University.

The inn itself is a 120-year historic building ideally situated just off the main street of the downtown core, but in a quiet residential neighbourhood.

Visitors can easily walk to most attractions in the town. The inn has 3 suites on site as well as a manager suite located on the third floor.

  • The Starr Suite is a king room with an adjacent sitting room and ensuite bathroom.
  • The Locust Suite is a queen room with an adjacent sitting room and a second floor fully enclosed veranda with an ensuite bathroom.
  • The Bath House is cottage at the back of the property with a king bed, hot tub, and outdoor shower.
  • The manager's suite is an open living area comprising the entire third floor that has its own sitting room, king bed, lavatory and a soaker tub with views over the Minas Basin.
  • All suites have coffee machines and refrigerators.
  • The main floor of the inn has a living room, dining room and full kitchen available as a common area for guests.
  • The inn operates as a limited service accommodation with no prepared food service.

The Position

The Inn Manager will be responsible for running the inn day-to-day and will live on site in the manager's suite.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to live and work in Wolfville and run a business.

The responsibilities of the Inn Manager will include:

  • Guest relations answering the phone, booking and managing online reservations, greeting guests on check in and securing payment, and any other onsite support that may arise during a guest's stay.
  • Room maintenance room turnovers between guest stays including making beds, changing towels, and onsite laundry using two washers and two dryers.
  • Inn maintenance, which will include 3x weekly cleaning and any light maintenance issues that arise. For major maintenance issues, you will liaise with the owner to arrange handyman jobs.
  • Pursuing any local marketing opportunities with cultural events, local businesses, or tourism offices to promote reservations.
  • Purchasing supplies as required to stock the inn, there is no cooking required.
  • Supervising one or more staff which will be available as support to allow you personal days or in the event of an emergency when you are not available to work.

The daily activities of running the inn typically take between 1-5 hours depending on the number of rooms changing over on the day.

As this is a part time commitment, other complimentary part time work is acceptable but must not interfere with the professional management of the inn.

The company offers a comprehensive compensation structure composed of:

  • Free accommodation to live and work in Wolfville
  • Variable compensation tied to occupancy
  • A strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability. You will be the first and last say on many daytoday operating decisions.
  • Experience in hospitality and knowing how to deliver exceptional "guest experiences." Every guest stay must please and delight to encourage positive reviews and repeat business.
  • Able to do light manual labor and go up and down stairways many times a day to change beds and clean.
  • Technology aware enough to learn to monitor the website, make frequent social media posts, and interact with the online reservation system.
  • Ability to organize, schedule and supervise back up staff when required to allow for personal days without impacting guest services.
  • Mature students may apply, however, you must be available to work during the period of 10am and 3pm each day to accommodate guest check ins. As you are also going to be living in the inn itself, you would be expected to avoid having any social events or activities that would create noise at the inn during the evenings which might disturb guests.
  • Couples may also apply.

If you are entrepreneurial, this is an excellent opportunity for you to get creative and you will be incentivized to think of new revenue opportunities.

For example, getaway weekends or hosting special events.
