    Our Vancouver Island group of practices is looking for a Full-Time Optometrist for four or five days per week for a permanent position at our dynamic practices in in Nanaimo, Parksville and Ladysmith, BC. We have a long-established full scope primary care practice offering the full breadth of optometric services. We are a founding member of FYi with a strong belief in the benefit of cooperative business planning with our peers across the country.     Job duties

    The Optometrist is a key healthcare professional within FYidoctors, primarily responsible for providing comprehensive eye care to diagnose, manage, and treat conditions related to the eyes and vision. This role encompasses a wide range of clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic services aimed at maintaining optimal eye health and visual function for our patients.

    Core Responsibilities:

  • Patient Examination:
  • o Utilize diagnostic tools for eye and vision assessment, including visual acuity tests, tonometry, retinoscopy, and imaging techniques.

    o Conduct thorough eye exams to assess ocular health and visual function.

  • Diagnosis and Treatment:
  • o Diagnose ocular diseases, visual conditions, and abnormalities.

    o Prescribe medications, vision therapies, corrective lenses, or refer patients to specialists when necessary.

  • Vision Correction:
  • o Prescribe and fit eyeglasses and contact lenses, providing advice on visual aids that best suit the patient's lifestyle and visual needs.

    o Manage follow-up adjustments and patient consultations regarding vision correction options.

  • Disease Management:
  • o Monitor and manage ongoing conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts.

    o Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgeries.

  • Emergency Care:
  • o Provide immediate care for acute vision problems and ocular emergencies.

    o Remove foreign objects, treat infections, and manage ocular injuries as required.

  • Preventive Health Services:
  • o Educate patients on eye health, preventive care, and early detection strategies to prevent vision loss.

    o Conduct screenings for vision-related health issues.

  • Professional Development:
  • o Stay informed on the latest research, technology, and practices in optometry and eye care.

    o Participate in continuing education and professional association activities to enhance knowledge and skills.

  • Clinical Administration:
  • o Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.

  • Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure a seamless patient experience.
  • Terms of employment (for example, project-based, permanent position)

    Permanent, Full-Time position. Daytime, evening, weekends.

    Compensation will correspond to 21% of the gross revenue generated by the candidate at each work location (clinic).

    Anticipated yearly wages between $120,000 - $150,000.

    If selected, a candidate who is in the process of obtaining a license to practice optometry in Canada will initially work as Optical Associate, until the required license is obtained, and will be paid at a rate of $ per hour during this period.
