    Role:

    The Process Design Kit & Physical Verification department serves as the sole liaison between AMD and our semiconductor manufacturing partners. In doing so, the department is firmly entrenched in the entire silicon design process -- from technology bring up, to the tape-out for pre silicon designs. In this position you will be an integral part of the ASIC design process. The candidate will be responsible for helping the PDK team achieve our mandate, commitment, and goals. Emphasis will be placed on augmenting our PDK quality flows and procedures with applicable and representative test cases. This team is essential to the success of AMD as a growing company. It is a very exciting environment, and you will be working with the very best in our technology. You will be working on some of the most exciting projects the industry has to offer.

    Key Responsibilities
  • Process Design Kit (PDK):
  • Interface with design teams (including Design, Enablement, CAD, Yield, Project Management) across AMD to capture Process Design Kit (PDK) requirements.
  • Develop and install key technology files which include DRC, LVS, Spice, PEX and EMIR
  • Design new regression tests to increase QA coverage of PDK.
  • Benchmark PDKs across various manufacturing partners (i.e. how does device performance compare?)
  • Create and monitor PDK testing and prevent design flow interruptions.
  • Communicate PDK requirements to foundry partners and negotiate release schedules.
  • Communicate and document all PDK releases to AMD design & enablement teams.
  • Ensure quick turn-around times to address all urgent PDK disruptions.
  • Triage PDK issues and drive to resolution

  • Physical Verification:
  • Architect and implement advanced layout design rules to insure best in class design.
  • Assess impact of future DRC, LVS, ERC releases on existing design and make recommendation for Design Team adaptation.
  • Own and Support tools, flows, and technology files for Design Rule Checking (DRC), Layout vs. Schematic Checking (LVS), and Electrical Rule Checking (ERC),
  • Collaborate with Design Team in developing new flows and supporting them when issues arise.
  • Triage Physical Verification issues and drive to resolution

    Preferred Skillset and Experience:
  • Hardware skills: An understanding of analog design concepts such as MOS transistor operation and physical characteristics, logic circuit operation.
  • Software skills: Ability to develop well-structured and maintainable software. Experience with code testing and regression and their importance.
  • Experience in UNIX shell environment, Perl scripting, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, SKILL, spice netlist syntax and simulation are assets.
  • Candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills in order to work well with peers in Toronto and other AMD design sites.
