Position Summary:


Reporting to the Lead Pressure Equipment Integrity (PEI) Inspector, the Inspector - Pressure Equipment Integrity (PEI) is one of the team members responsible for the stewardship of NWR's Pressure Equipment Integrity Management systems for all static equipment (reactors, columns, pressure vessels, fired equipment, heat exchangers, storage tanks, etc.) and piping components for the Sturgeon Refinery.


Responsibilities:


  • Works with the chief inspector, lead inspector and engineering team to coordinate corrosion and asset integrity management systems, using a riskbased inspection approach for static equipment and piping systems;
  • Ensures compliance with the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (Owner/User Manual) in accordance and in compliance with Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) requirements;
  • Reviews and updates equipment inspection plans. Documents all related integrity events in the IDMS system. Owns the IDMS master data quality;
  • Works with Materials and Corrosion Engineer to update and maintain corrosion manuals during the life cycle of the refinery;
  • Monitors Integrity Operating Windows (IOW's) and assist Operating Refinery in defining safe operating limits for static equipment and piping systems;
  • Correlates various condition monitoring data streams for evaluation during the risk
- ranking of corrosion circuits and pressure equipment;

  • Works with the Refinery organization to ensure effective execution of scope regarding corrosion monitoring locations, inspection methodologies and frequencies;
  • Participates in the development and review of written procedures to assure the integrity of pressure equipment;
  • Participates in root cause failure analysis studies;
  • Supports the Operations Asset Integrity plan for issues such as cleanliness and tightness;
  • Owns inspection tasks during unplanned outage and liaise with the OMT to ensure material availability, access requirements and repair options have been considered;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to NWR's Core Competencies to drive results and a high performing culture;
  • Diploma in Mechanical, Materials Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Certification to API 510 and API 570, valid inservice inspector certification from ABSA, certification to one or more of API 571, 577, 580, 653, and/or 936 would also be an asset;
  • Previous experience with all types of mechanical static equipment (pressure vessels, fired heaters, tanks, heat exchangers, etc.) and piping components utilized in refinery operations;
  • Knowledge of welding processes and nondestructive examination techniques (RT, UT, LT, MT, Eddy Current, IRIS, etc.); working knowledge of corrosion and damage mechanisms associated with refinery service environments and associated monitoring, repair and testing techniques;
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards such as: CSA B51: ASME Section I, VIII, IX, B31.1, and B31.3; API 510, 570, 571, 572, 577, 579, 580, 653, and 936; working knowledge of coatings, nonmetallic liners, cathodic protection and implementation of riskbased inspection plans;
