General Accountability:


  • The Manager, Continuous Improvement position will review existing business processes for the purposes of enhancing effectiveness and benchmarking with industry best practices. The Manager will provide a range of cross sectional support to the entire Materials Management (MM) Department for better value, efficiency and customer service. This role will educate others and develop a culture that embraces Continuous Improvement.

Key Job Functions:


  • Lead and support Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and manages all ongoing materials improvement projects with an aim of improving value, efficiency, customer service, and waste levels.
  • Handle inhouse training of Continuous Improvement methodologies and guide employees in their deployment.
  • Responsible for all business process mapping for the purpose of identifying waste, pain points, inefficiency and bottlenecks; identifies and prioritizes opportunities for process improvements.
  • Provide technical advice to team members, Department management, and other internal clients regarding CI initiatives and best practices.
  • Understand business product line needs, including supporting cost, delivery and quality improvement programs with existing and new suppliers.
  • Help develop and manage supplier risk mitigation plans for major suppliers. Develop effective performance corrective actions.
  • Establish and maintains measurable KPIs and other metrics as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates behaviours that support diversity, inclusion and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. Helps to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies

    Education and Experience:
  • Completion of a University Degree or College Diploma in a relevant discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent combined with significant Continuous Improvement (CI) / Lean / Six Sigma experience.
  • Indepth knowledge of process improvement techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business processes, develop strategies, lead CI activities, monitor progress of results, and provide mentorship to others
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to spearhead both the planning and implementation stages of multiple projects
  • Effective leadership skills including the ability to act as a change agent while coaching others and inspiring enthusiasm for change
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
