Who You Are


As the Manager, HR/LR Business Partner, you will be responsible for overseeing and delivering HR and LR programs and services in alignment with UG's strategic business goals.

Reporting to the Director HR/LR Operations, this role is accountable for providing a full range of HR services to operational partners including management staff and line employees for an assigned portfolio of business groups within the Universal Group of companies.


What you will do:

Business Partnership


Builds effective partnerships within the assigned portfolio of businesses including developing a strong understanding of the department's services, encouraging development of the client's business strategic plan to maximize the potential of available human resources.

Provides coaching and advice to managers/leaders on the selection, implementation and management of human resource strategies and evaluates and measures the effectiveness of selected strategies.

Identifies needs for specialized HR expertise in areas such as compensation, recruitment, retention, employee wellness and safety and organizational development and coordinates business managers and human resources partner teams for additional support.

Leadership

Models behaviour that is consistent with the strategic direction of the organization.

Supports other HR professionals include HR Business Partners in maintaining and enhancing the quality people and performance services through a client-services lens.

Develops a team of HR professionals and provide guidance on HR policies, LR practices, HR/LR procedures, leadership best practices and direction in situations requiring interpretation and sound judgment.

Human Resources


Advises and coaches operational partners on recruitment and selection procedures, fiscally responsible mindset, and the interpretation of the collective agreement obligations.

Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on performance management, employee relations, and compliance with HR policies and legislation.

Provides support to the VP, HR and Director, HR/LR Operations in the development and implementation of HR programs that align with strategic business goals.

Labour Relations


Interprets, coaches and advises operational groups regarding collective agreement interpretation, government legislation and company policies and procedures and other legal obligations affecting HR issues.

Works alongside the Director, HR/LR Operations regarding LR implications of organizational changes with the respective union(s). Keeps management current on industry issues, union/management initiatives, collective agreement changes, legislation and jurisprudence.

Supports the dispute resolution of the grievance process including investigating issues/grievances, maintaining documentation, engaging in discussions with management and union representatives in an effort to achieve effective resolution and representing the employer at union/management meetings as required.

Encourages the development of positive and proactive union/management relations, including relationships with union representatives and stewards, and collaborates with business managers and leaders as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources and/or a combination education, training and experience equivalent to 7 to 10 years' experience in an HR advisory role with a track record of progressing responsibility
Minimum 5 to 7 years' experience years of progressively more senior experience in a unionized setting an
