    Position Responsibilities
  • Provides animal care, daily monitors animals and logs all activities
  • Performs daily feeding of specimens and weekly cleaning of their environments
  • Supports teaching and research efforts, provides technical support to faculty, staff, and students
  • Performs care and handling of animals in accordance with CCAC guidelines and RDP policies and procedures
  • Ensure excellent record keeping of laboratories, laboratory equipment, supplies, and materials
  • Conducts data analysis and writes reports as required
  • Ensures a safe and healthy work environment by complying with institutional health and safety policies, standard practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health and safety legislation and regulations
  • Practices good housekeeping in compliance with OHS
  • Ensures safe storage of chemicals
  • Establishes and maintains tidy labs, follow lab safety procedures, and make suggestions where necessary to keep all lab participants safe
  • Carries out scheduled (monthly, weekly, and daily) testing of safety equipment
  • Stores all chemicals according to WHMIS regulations
  • Discards waste and biohazardous waste according to WHMIS and Biosafety regulations
  • Ensures equipment is in working order, requests repairs when needed
  • Ensures all materials that are needed for the labs and animals are in good supply, order and/or make more when needed

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of postsecondary training, completion of a community college certificate in Biological Technology Diploma or College Certificate with relevant accreditation
  • Standard First Aid, Level C CPR and AED
  • WHMIS
  • Valid Driver's License
  • More than 6 months up to 1 year experience
