About the Opportunity

The Teaching/Laboratory Assistant will coordinate and perform tasks and activities in several areas of the laboratory.

Responsibilities will include basic lab skills such as preparing solutions, autoclaving media, keeping the lab safe and operational (restocking supplies), overseeing unpacking of supplies, washing of lab glassware, etc.

The Teaching/Laboratory Assistant will also monitor supplies and inventory for areas of the lab as directed by the lab instructor, enforce and follow all laboratory safety rules and report any possible hazards to the lab instructor, readily assist other laboratory personnel when requested.

Specific tasks with which the lab assistant will aid the lab instructor include but are not limited to the following:

establishing and maintaining CHO and HEK293T cell lines, ensuring QC for the current inventory, working out SEC chromatographic methods with FPLC, E.

coli culture and transformation, and miscellaneous tasks as required.

The lab assistant is also expected to prepare for classes on their assigned days, check in with instructors about inventory and maintain weekly schedules for the course.

Some weekends may be required for cell culture generation and maintenance.


The Teaching/Laboratory Assistant will also be responsible for attending two sections of lab per week and aiding with instruction, student support and grading as needed.

Job Requirements

BS in life sciences or related area with experience required. Experience with above activities and techniques preferred. Having worked in a research or development academic or industry lab is a plus. Must be able to work 20 hours per week and on weekends. CV/resume and cover letter required.
