    What is the opportunity?

    As an Employee Relations Advisor, you will be responsible to provide advice and counsel to people managers and employees on complex and high risk workplace situations, providing a fair and transparent employee experience while managing risk to RBC by ensuring compliance with policy and business ethics practices, regulatory requirements and applicable federal and provincial employment and human rights legislation.

    Employee Relations Advisors are accountable to provide support in 3 areas: 1) performance, absenteeism and behavioural issues, business initiatives and restructures, 2) Code of Conduct matters including Respectful Workplace Policy investigations, or 3) escalated workplace concerns , including in response to corrective actions and dismissals.

    What will you do?

    • Provide timely advice, counsel and information to people managers (including senior leaders and executives) to assist them in managing and resolving a high volume and wide range of complex employee issues and concerns
    • Simplify complex issues and provide proactive strategies for risk management and remediation
    • Proactively educate and train managers including through creating self-serve tools and resources and supporting COE partners to enable managers
    • Build and maintain key relationships with businesses and functions influencing and negotiating while being viewed as a true partner
    • Track cases identifying trends and emerging issues including identifying the root cause of the concerns to assist with incorporating lessons learned into future work
    • Manage risk and improve manager and employee experience through enabling and ensuring well informed, fair and transparent decisions which place employees at the centre and focus on RBC Values while making recommendations for continuous improvement
    • Active involvement in broader Employee Relations projects and initiatives, as applicable

    What do you need to succeed?

    Must-have

    • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience (preferred focus in human resources, management)
    • Direct people leadership or HR experience
    • Knowledge of Canadian employment law and regulations
    • Bilingualism (English/French)
    • Demonstrated experience in aligning and integrating risk management with business and HR strategy, as well as complicated risk analysis
    • Strategic thinking, analytical and problem solving capabilities
    • Proven ability in establishing and managing relationships with senior level stakeholders
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
