Nature of the assignment:

The Math and Numeracy Instructors at the Robert Gillespie Academic Skills Centre focused on mathematics, problem-solving, critical thinking, and reasoning skills in the Mathematics and Sciences disciplines.


Assignment description:

The position will primarily involve one-on-one instruction and conduct drop-in appointments with undergraduate students and may also deliver group instruction such as informal discussion groups and formal workshops at UTM.

Schedule Information:
Variable in-person and synchronous hours from Monday to Friday from 10am -4pm. Synchronous appointments will be conducted online using the WCONLINE platform. In person appointments will be held at the UTM Campus.

Paid training on synchronous and/or asynchronous writing instruction is mandatory for all Writing Instructors who have not receive training in the past four months and will be held in the first two weeks of September.


Sessional Dates of Appointment: 1 January April 2023 (Fall/Winter semesters)


Salary:

$47.94/hour (Writing Instructor 1)
$51.55/hour (Writing Instructor 2)
$53.

06/hour (Writing Instructor - Priority)
Minimum Qualifications:


  • A completed graduate degree in Mathematics or Sciences
  • Experience teaching critical thinking, problemsolving, and study skills in the Mathematics and Sciences disciplines
  • Experience working oneonone and in a small group setting, both in person and online, with Mathematics and Science students at a postsecondary institution
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate interactive workshops
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a highly collaborative setting
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Experience as a TA or instructor for mathematics or science postsecondary courses

Preferred Qualification:
Familiarity with course content of MAT102H, MAT133Y, MAT132/4H, MAT135/6H, MAT223H, and MAT232H, and foundational statistics is preferred.
