Expectations
This role is based out of the Corporate Head Office Avenue, Edmonton, AB.)
with regular travel requirements to our Calgary Operations as follows to ensure that we maintain a high level of presence and support:


April - October

  • 1 x / week minimum (Weekly) Additional travel may be required depending on severity of an incident or other circumstances that would be worked out with Management

November - March

  • 1 x / 2 weeks minimum (Bi-Weekly) Additional travel may be required depending on severity of an incident or other circumstances that would be worked out with Management
  • Schedule to be established at the start of each month
To maximize the effectiveness and efficiencies of trips, management requests regularly scheduled mid-week trips as follows:

  • Depart Edmonton Office directly following the weekly Safety Meetings on Wednesday's
  • Arrival in Calgary for late morning for site visits, etc.
  • Facilitate Calgary Safety Meetings on Thursday Mornings
  • When possible, schedule inperson new hire orientations directly following the safety meeting give the ability to spend the balance of the time attending to the safety requirements of the division until early afternoon

Roles & Responsibilities


Provides guidance and support to our projects and operations based staff, with incident reporting, safety orientation, audits and training, in addition to providing information on environmental and safety Legislative Standards.


  • Direct the health and safety program in civil construction
  • Demonstrate the capability to work under the direction of leadership on multiple tasks requiring judgement to resolve problems
  • Works with employees, foreman and management to identify potential hazards
  • Encourages and promotes a safe work culture with a positive attitude and team approach
  • Performs various levels of worksite inspections, audits and follows through with appropriate levels of coaching and support for all corrective actions
  • Investigates incidents, near misses and hazardous conditions as per our Safety Matrix. Complete incident causation analysis, develop, implement and follow up on corrective actions
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, weekly safety meetings, construction meetings, town halls and client meetings as required
  • Conduct yearly general safety meetings
  • Assistance in creating Safe Job Analysis and perform updates as conditions and processes change
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current OH & S Legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company standards and policies
  • Reporting to WCB & OH&S as required
  • Monitor and track all WCB cases, claims, return to work instructions
  • Provide mentoring to workers and leaders in maintaining safe work habits and practices
  • Participate and contribute with ongoing procedural, policy and other documentation development and updates as required
  • Proactively identifies leading indicators and trends in the field and communicates the same back to the field and management
  • Communicates established policies, practices and procedures to workers and remain informed on changes
  • Conduct new worker orientations
  • Onboard and maintain subcontractor qualifications
  • Monitor, review and maintain the corporate transportation safety manual
  • Conduct transportation audits and work with employees to ensure industry compliance
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training to new hires and existing employees
  • Ensure safety manuals are current with reviews and updates
  • Work with clients based on their safety requirements and provide orientations
  • Establish occupational medical and legal resources that contributes to the success of the disability management program
  • Oversee corporate insurance requirements for subcontractors
  • Incident Management including prevention
  • Report any unsafe acts
  • Audit and inspect worksite to ensure compliance
  • Ensure worker and Management are aware, engaged and complaint with the Health and safety program
  • Identify training requirements
  • Maintain safety training records
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate safety issues
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with worker records and business information
  • Review of all safety documentation produced on worksites
  • Ensure proper First Aid is administered to an injured worker
  • Assist in the development of safe work/ job practices
