Position Summary

This co-op position will be responsible for developing, manufacturing and characterizing nucleic acids which are used for synthesizing mRNA lipid-based nanoparticle formulations using NanoAssemblr platform to support internal research projects and product development.

Areas of Responsibility- Manufacture RNA based drugs using PNI's proprietary cell-free systems. Lead and support small independent projects on RNA manufacturing process development activities including both upstream and downstream processes. Support small independent projects on bioreactor development & bioprocess development including experimental design and reports Perform process optimization and validation experiments related to RNA-based drug manufacturing and perform appropriate assays for mRNA characterization. Support assessment of the functional activity of synthetic RNA based vaccines. Perform routine validation studies to support product development and biochemical engineering projects. Assist in the scale-up and process development of RNA synthesis in the cell-free systems. Prepares Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), reports and technical presentations. Assists in the day-to-day management of the lab. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and ExperienceCurrently enrolled in a bachelor's program in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences Previous work experience in a related laboratory environment or completion of at least one previous co-op assignment. Experience in analytical assays, strong analytical and troubleshooting capability. Experience with biochemical and bioprocess engineering fundamental is an asset. Experience of techniques such as Nucleic acid and Protein purification, Enzyme kinetics, gel electrophoresis, chromatographic purification techniques are an asset. Must be a resourceful, proactive, detail oriented individual. The individual must be a team player who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and aggressive deadlines. Excellent communication skills. Be able to work with minimum supervision.
