    Job Summary

    The GRM Operational Risk Shared Services Team is responsible for the development, strategic direction, maintenance and monitoring effectiveness of the operational risk program and associated tools and methodology. The primary purpose for the Director role is to ensure an effective Enterprise operational risk programs are in place for Change Management, Scenario Analysis, External Events, and other operation risk programs; including Thematic Reviews to ensure programs are aligned to regulatory requirements such as OSFI E-21.

    This role partners closely with the Senior Director Risk Practice Management Strategy to provide operational risk support in facilitating the development, maintenance and monitoring the effectiveness of the operational risk framework and sound risk management practices across all of RBC's business platforms and corporate functions. Further this role works to coordinate with regional requirements, and alignment to Enterprise.

    What is the opportunity?

    What will you do?

    • Establish clear goals, objectives, and deliverables for the team based on ORM and Stakeholder priorities; monitor team progress and pivot to emerging priorities when needed
    • Monitor compliance to policy, and communicating exceptions to Advisory & Oversight team for liaison with 1st LOD and other impacted parties
    • Creating strategic directions for programs experience externally or internally evolution, including setting direction, stakeholder engagement, tool evaluation, implementation and monitoring
    • Identify and prioritize future practice requirements after consultation with a defined community of users including both 1LOD, 2nd line (A&O, Centre of Governance)
    • Identification of related system requirements in consultation with technology team to support business requirements
    • Enable continual improvement of practices, in consultation with and alignment to Risk Practice strategy
    • Develop multi-year practice roadmap in consultation with and aligned to with Risk Practice Strategy and Technology Strategy
    • Provide expert advice on operational risk, leveraging insights from operational risk reporting and analytics, independent reviews and industry perspective to ensure RBC's operational risk program maintains a forward-looking view that considers both managed and emerging risks
    • Actively seek to simplify requirements where appropriate to enable consistent practices.
    • Actively support business partners in all lines of defence such as business operational leads, the A&O and Centre of Governance communities in implementing the operational risk program in a manner that aligns with strategic objectives
    • Ensure stakeholders are enabled with appropriate operational risk tools and resources to react proactively to operational risk issues and provide ongoing subject matter expertise
    • Prioritize and facilitate responses to queries and ad hoc requests coming from internal and external stakeholders

    What do you need to succeed?

    Must Have:

    • 10+ years of experience in risk management with deep knowledge of banking regulatory requirements and best practices related to global risk management practices
    • Experience working in a matrixed environment, managing a diverse group of executive stakeholders
    • Highly proficient in stakeholder management, change management, strategy development, people management
    • Strong ability to influence, interpret feedback, motivate and effect change
    • Expert in risk management methodologies

    Nice to Have:

    • Graduate degree or designation / certification associated with Risk Management
    • Strong negotiation skills and ability to partner with multiple stakeholders across a matrixed environment
    • Direct operational risk experience
