Job Summary


Population Data BC is a multi-university, data and education resource facilitating interdisciplinary research on the determinants of human health, well-being and development.

Population Data BC is the coordinating centre for Health Data Research Network Canada (HDRN Canada). HDRN Canada is a research-enabling, distributed network that supports multi-regional, person-focused research.

The work of HDRN Canada is supported by a seven-year, $81M ($39M in cash) grant, called the Canadian Data Platform, awarded by the CIHR under its Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), and has in-kind contributions from network member organizations across Canada.

HDRN Canada is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization with many complex and strategic relationships with Ministries of Health and other government entities (which are often funders of network members), with federal agencies and with other groups, networks and data providers.

The network comprises every national, provincial, and territorial centre that holds population-wide health data.

As HDRN Canada, our 14 centres work together and share resources to support researchers in using the 543 health and social datasets that our centres hold.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for enabling the various activities of this significant national data and infrastructure investment.

They will provide complex operational coordination for the research activities carried out as part of the Canadian Data Platform grant.

This includes facilitating collaboration between data centres, working groups, and partner organizations, and carrying out duties as needed to achieve grant objectives.

Organizational Status


Population Data BC (PopData) is based at the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH), which is in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.

We are a key member of the International Population Data Linkage Network, through which we have promoted international research collaborations and fostered working groups on privacy and access to data.


This position is part of the Health Data Research Network Canada central coordination team, and reports to the Director of Operations, HDRN Canada.

Work Performed- Facilitates the operationalization of the Canadian Data Platform and Health Data Research Network Canada, coordinating various activities and initiatives led by the Nominated Principal Investigator (NPI), grant co-investigators, and Director of Operations- Works with data centres and partner organizations across Canada to develop common tools and processes that improve interjurisdictional population-level health research- Responsible for the coordination of collaborations between Platform node organizations across Canada, using understanding of grant objectives and current challenges in health data research to participate in activities and regularly engage with project leads, stakeholders, and researchers. Oversees and manages all documentation by coordinating the acquisition and dissemination of information from multiple sources and individuals- Provides defined support to the NPI / Scientific Director of HDRN Canada- Prepares academic material related to the Canadian Data Platform- Prepares material for grant funding submissions Contributes to the development of project plans and critical paths for successful completion of projects and project deliverables- Supports grant activities such as public and patient engagement, Indigenous community engagement, IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in population data research), Data Access Support Hub, data harmonization and algorithm development, etc.- Participates in various working groups to help achieve goals shared ac
