The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Director of People and Belonging, the Manager is accountable for having an expert understanding of compensation matters across IWK Health and being knowledgeable of the broader provincial health sector compensation matters.

The Manager plays a key role in operational service delivery by providing direction to the Compensation Consultants and Assistant and other members of the People and Organization Development portfolio on resolving complex issues and ensuring that they have the information and tools required to provide responsive, accurate, and consistent services.

The Manager is responsible for developing and compliance of policies, processes, and programs that promote service excellence and comply with the organization's compensation framework, collective agreements, and employment guides.


The Manager is accountable for researching and delivering innovative solutions that are aligned with the provincial program business objectives and are consistent with relevant policies, collective agreement language, legislation, and the vision, mission, values, and culture of IWK Health.

Collaborating with various partners on the POD team is integral to the support of the human resources service delivery model.


The Manager also works in close collaboration with the clinical and non-clinical Directors on complex Compensation issues and matters of provincial scope to support consistency in practices across IWK.


The Manager demonstrates the ability to understand the needs of the clients they serve and makes recommendations for action plans to address issues that effectively use and integrate the services provided by POD to support and enhance client team functioning.


Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday. This role is eligible for hybrid work arrangements.


Your Qualifications:


  • Graduate of postsecondary degree and Certificate Program in Business Administration, Business Management, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Finance, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Five to Seven (57) years of progressive Human Resource Management experience with a specialty in managing broader compensation programs, and job evaluation experience with multiple job evaluation systems. Within this five to seven years, two years of equivalent experience in leadership roles in a complex multiunion environment or unionized health care sector experience.
  • Experience in change management and project management is considered an asset
  • Canadian Compensation Professional (CCP) designation preferred, or willingness to pursue these or related, appropriate designations
  • Membership in local and/or Human Resources Associations and other relevant organizations
  • Advanced knowledge of Job Evaluation methods, specifically the HAY system, and experience with qualitative (whole job comparison) and quantitative job evaluation tools (e.g. WyFactor plan)
  • An understanding of compensationrelated collective agreement articles
  • The ability to work in a professionally challenging environment providing services to a variety of clients with a functionally diverse workforce
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A demonstrated ability to represent the employer's interests to the highest professional standards in dealings with all levels of management within the healthcare sector
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others and achieve results through people
  • Organized, and capable of handling multiple assignments, simultaneously
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, and assess future needs of the program and service delivery requirements across a range of functional areas supported, e.g. collective bargaining, job evaluation, compensation policy, compensationrelated arbi
