Dedicated to the delivery of high-quality work, you will champion academic and professional development, education, and professional practice requirements across Oak Valley Health.

Working with a dynamic team of leaders, you will support best practices and drive strategic change projects forward in alignment with the academic and clinical development plan.


Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Professional Practice Leader, Acute Medicine/Cardiology is responsible for developing and maintaining education materials, delivering training and providing ongoing support for the acute medicine and cardiology units (3E and 3C) at Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Through participation on committees, working groups and project teams, the Professional Practice Leader collaborates with others to support projects, process improvement, and mandated initiatives, focusing on system optimization, uptake of best practices, and adoption of supported clinical practices.

The Professional Practice Leader will be responsible for active participation in supporting a diverse team of experienced and novice professionals.


What you bring to the role:
Education

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is required,
  • Master's Degree in a related health discipline (e.g., Nursing, Health Administration, Professional Practice) is required or in progress of completion

Required Skills:


  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a registered nurse in good standing
  • Canadian Nurses Association specialty certification preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience as a professional practice leader, clinical educator or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Clinical experience with telemetry required
  • Membership with the Registered Nursing Association of Ontario preferred
  • BLS instructor with Heart and Stroke required or commitment to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • ACLS instructor with Heart and Stroke required or commitment to obtain within 3 months of hire
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate
  • Expertise in the delivery of formal and informal education/coaching
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and teaching strategies
  • Expertise in planning/implementing and evaluating practice changes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, practice standards, and best practice guidelines
  • Proven experience teaching and supporting clinicians coupled with effective leadership, decisionmaking, communication, organizational and problemsolving skills
  • Ability to combine clinical experience, best practice and knowledge to provide effective education, support and input on organizational initiatives
  • Uses effective leadership, facilitation, persuasion and negotiation abilities to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational, research, data analysis skills, time management and priority setting skills in accomplishing assigned work deliverables in a dynamic climate of competing demands
  • Demonstrated ability to function both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Basic understanding of data, clinical information and how these are operationalized within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to create knowledge.
