    GENERAL SUMMARY:


    Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Lead, Nursing, the Registered Nurse is an important member of the patient care team for various programs at Cleveland Clinic Canada.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Demonstrates initiative and ability to function both independently and as a team member in a fast-paced demanding environment.

    This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for patients and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes for safe, equitable care for all patient populations.

    Preferred phlebotomy certification and IV therapy administration course or relevant experience.
    Preferred Perioperative certification.
    Preferred EPIC competency.

    Required Length and Type of Experience

    At least 2 years of recent acute care experience, preferably in a hospital setting, as a Registered Nurse.

    Required Licensure, Certification or Registry
    Current registration as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
    Must hold perioperative nursing credentials from an accredited institution.
    Must have current BCLS certification and/or ACLS certification (or willing to obtain).


    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Assists in a variety of different clinics such as executive health, dermatology, cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, urology, respiratory, orthopedics, psychiatry, endocrinology, ENT, allergy, and women's health.

    Provides professional nursing care to a specific patient population utilizing the nursing process. Patient assessment includes measuring vital signs. Communicates patient concerns to physician and/or appropriate resources.

    Performs a variety of procedures such as ear irrigation, suture/staple removal, nasopharyngeal specimen sampling, intramuscular injections, visual acuity testing, spirometry, setting up a sterile tray, performing aseptic procedures, suture/staple removal, care when handling surgical instruments, phlebotomy, and IV insertion as well as assists physicians with Pap smears.

    Administers and records immunizations. Educates patients regarding possible side effects.
    Triages patient phone calls and emails appropriately as per department policy. Assesses patients' health needs, discusses test results, and responds to questions pertaining to health promotion and disease prevention. Adapts education to meet patients' needs.
    Communicates patient results clearly, concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner. Discusses test results and responds to questions pertaining to health promotion and disease prevention. Adapts education to meet patients' needs. Coordinates appropriate follow-up as needed.
    Actively maintains infection control as well as a safe working environment.
    Maintains accurate, concise and confidential electronic medical record documentation (i.e. EPIC) pertaining to patient history and encounter data.
    Demonstrates leadership skills in the coordination and provision of healthcare. Takes responsibility for identification of own professional growth and development needs. Meets all departmental/organizational education requirements.
    Interacts with patients, physicians, staff and other caregivers in a caring, compassionate and supportive way. Resolves difficult conversations or situations in a mature and professional manner with input from others as needed/
    Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
