    The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

    The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

    Duties:

    We are seeking an energetic, practice-based professional to assume regular responsibilities as temporary faculty in the Early Childhood Education and Care program. Duties and responsibilities include: developing, preparing and delivering courses, designing and evaluating student assignments and other performance measures, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice through classroom, lab and field placement instruction.

    The successful candidate will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles; demonstrating a commitment to teaching, learning, and student success consistent with the values of the institution, Faculty, and goals of the program. An ability to work in a team-oriented program and Faculty in an institution that is primarily focused on students and teaching is essential, along with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, cross-disciplinary activity, an interest in interdisciplinary scholarship, and the inclusion of students in scholarly inquiry activities and research.

    Faculty will participate in program and Faculty meetings, committee work within the program and the Faculty, and participate in other program initiatives and activities such as advising, recruitment, admissions, program, and curriculum development.

    This position will require travel to a variety of practice settings.

    Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

    Required Qualifications:

    Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and Care and 7 or more years of practice in Early Childhood Education. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Current membership in the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC).
  • Recent practical experience in the field of Early Childhood Education.
  • Strong commitment to, and record of, successful undergraduate teaching and student learning, with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying theory in practice in a manner that is consistent with the content in the course descriptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with, and contribute to, teams at all levels of a post secondary institution.
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology to teaching.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    PhD in Early Childhood Education and Care, expertise in instruction at the post-secondary level, proven research skills.
