Compensation Range

$4, $6,754.00 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Description Summary


Supports the Director, Communications & Marketing in the development and implementation of communications and marketing content (with a focus on photographic, video, and vector graphic assets) and strategies to enhance the reputation and brand awareness of the Faculty amongst its key audiences locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally.

Manages the creation of photographic, video, audio, and vector graphic assets. Occasionally supervises the work of assistant staff, student workers, and volunteers on special projects.

Organizational Status

Reports directly to the Director, Communications & Marketing.

Works closely with Faculty offices and units such as the Offices of the Dean, Development & Alumni Engagement, Operations & Facilities Management, and Pharmacists Clinic.

Liaises regularly with faculty members, staff, students, alumni, and volunteers on special projects and with other UBC units as required.

Develops relationships with and directly liaises with faculty partners.

Work Performed


Communications & Marketing:

  • Supports the Director, Communications & Marketing and works closely with the Digital Communications Manager in the development and implementation of communications and marketing strategies with a focus on photo/video marketing.
  • Researches and develops story ideas for implementation in video/photo communications and marketing initiatives.
  • Assists with the development of strategic communications and marketing plans.
  • Manages and updates the Faculty s digital signage system. Creates and maintains content standards and guidelines for both internal and external signage users. Researches new technology and opportunities to optimize system usage.

Photography & Videography:

  • Manages the development and production of editorial and marketing videos, including concept development, storyboarding, filming on and off location, editing videos for web and social media use, and providing guidance for other members of the team regarding video production.
  • Shoots, edits, and produces visual content (videos and photographs) for campaigns and editorial content and supporting materials for resources, programs, and services.
  • Develops and maintains standards and policies for photo, video, and graphics assets, which comply with Faculty and UBC brand guidelines.
  • Takes highquality digital photographs for use in communications and marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Researches and sources photographs and videos from digital asset libraries for use in communications and marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Edits, processes, and digitally enhances photographs and videos using software including Adobe Photoshop, After Affects and Premiere.
  • Maintains a photography and video asset database using software including Adobe Lightroom.
  • Keeps uptodate with industry trends, developments, new techniques, and copyright and intellectual property regulations.

Graphic Design:

  • Creates and maintains standards for vector graphic assets, including criteria for the creation of vector graphics, which comply with Faculty and UBC brand guidelines.

Public Programs:

The Story of Medicines Interactive Exhibition:

  • Manages the Faculty's tour program for The Story of Medicines interactive exhibition. This includes communicating with tour clients, scheduling tours, delivering tours, and maintaining and updating tour scripts and activities.
  • Updates content for the Impact Media Wall digital display, part of The Story of Medicines.

Other Duties As Required:

  • Assists with content development and updates to Faculty websites, social media channels, and digital signage channels as required.
  • Assists with social media content updates, graphic design projects, issuing internal e-communications, and other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement


Judgment and tact are required when communicating with faculty members, staff, students, alumni, and faculty partners, as well as when coordinating projects within the department.
