    Formerly known as Day Camp Senior Directors, Camp Coordinators provide direct leadership and support to an assigned number of camp locations within a region. They are responsible for ensuring that on-site Camp Directors are set up for success and are well prepared so they are able to operate safe and high-quality Day Camp experience for campers. Camp Coordinators will assist Camp Directors hire their teams and with staff coaching and mentoring throughout the summer. They will have an integral role in program organization, training facilitation and program quality assurance. This position acts as a liaison between Regional Directors and Camp Directors to contribute to ongoing success and growth of Day Camp programs.

    In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership to Camp Directors and camp staff through hiring, training, coaching and monitoring performance throughout the summer
  • Plan and facilitate high-quality training to Day Camp staff prior to the beginning of camp
  • Follow up with Camp Directors to ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on-time inclusive of; program schedules, payroll, accident/incident forms and attendances
  • Support campers that are experiencing challenges by working and communicating with the staff, parent/guardians and YMCA colleagues
  • Maintain a high level of customer service; checking and responding to voicemail and emails in a timely manner, resolving parent/guardian escalations respectfully and quickly and following up with Regional Directors daily to inform them of situations
  • Assist with the purchasing of supplies when required and responsible for picking up and dropping off supplies to the assigned camp locations
  • Provide feedback through program evaluations to Camp Directors and ensure all check lists and audits are kept and organized for referral
  • Assist in the Day Camp warehouse with packing program kits for sites program success
  • Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; arriving on time, and actively participating and contributing to the development of all camp staff
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning, safety and maintenance to camp sites
  • Act as a positive role model for the campers and fellow staff through embodying the YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp conditions of employment/guidelines and the Ontario Camping Association standards
  • What you need to succeed:

  • Commitment to the YMCA's
  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
  • YMCA Competencies: Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter
  • You bring:

  • Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled) preferred
  • Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certificate valid until the last day of contract
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a child-oriented programs; camp specific setting preferred
  • Experience as a supervisor an asset
  • Daily access to a vehicle and valid license and ability to travel within your assigned region
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
