What can I expect to do in this role?: In this position, you will:

  • Provide advice, plan and lead Indigenous programs and initiatives
  • Promote understanding, cooperation and participation in the ministry's sustainable resource management programs with a focus on lands and resource allocation with communities and other users
  • Act as the ministry representative or advisor in resource and issue negotiation with Indigenous communities and associations
  • Prepare budget submissions and explore funding options as well as authorize and track expenditures for Indigenous and nonIndigenous programs and initiatives within communities
  • Assist in the development and delivery of community outreach initiatives to nonIndigenous communities

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • You possess a valid class G driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

Specialized Knowledge:


  • You have knowledge of Indigenous cultures and related social and economic issues and opportunities in order to conduct informed consultations and engagement with Indigenous communities.
  • You understand community development principles, promote and assist in the planning of Indigenous training initiatives and economic development opportunities and provide advice on these matters.

Leadership and Relationship Management Skills:


  • You have leadership skills to work with wide range of stakeholders with differing interests and cultures.
  • You possess conflict resolution and facilitation skills to negotiate and build consensus on resource management issues.
  • You are adept at developing and maintaining good relationships including those with stakeholders and Indigenous and nonIndigenous communities.

Communication Skills:


  • You have demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in order to provide direction, respond to inquiries and draft items such as briefing notes, reports, presentations and correspondence.

Research and Analytical Skills:


  • You can conduct research and analyze information/data to respond to requests and concerns, recommend solutions and provide issues management support.
