Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.


Summary of responsibilities:


The Women and Children's Health Program Clerk answers and places telephone calls, relays messages and directs patients' relatives and visitors, initiates transfer forms, completes tasks/orders through the electronic health record, fills out, sends, receives and delivers requisitions, orders supplies for the Unit.

Specific to Women and Children's Health Program, the clerk is accountable for data entry, validation and monthly reconciliation of information submitted directly into the BORN registry, completing E-Health Ontario's Newborn Registrations electronically, submitting Notice of Live Birth to Service Ontario Office of the Registrar General as well as maintaining the log book for EOHU Newborn visits, as well as other duties as assigned.


Requirements of the job:


  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Medical Terminology (tested with a pass mark of 75% or greater)
  • Medical Office Assistant Course or related experience
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Cerner Electronic Health
  • Power Chart and Capacity Management
  • Good understanding of Emergency Response Codes
  • Ability to multi task and work under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients and their families
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and advanced data entry skills
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand instructions, memos, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to do basic arithmetic to complete reports
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Typing speed of 45 w.p.m. (tested)
  • Good interpersonal and organization skills and strong team orientation
  • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French and testing completed)
