Your impact


Reporting to the Renewables Global Sector Leader (SL), the Canada East Renewables and Energy Transition Regional Sector Lead (RSL) supports and drives top line development throughout targeted geographies and Business Centers (BCs), alongside account managers, project delivery teams, and BC leadership.


The RSL is the "seller-doer" who is accountable for developing and meeting top line goals and targets by contributing to Energy Transition projects as a Project Manager and/or technically as well as leading and coordinating the pursuit process.

RSLs serves as regional leaders to drive and promote business development collaboration bringing a sector focus to local, regional, national, and global clients while serving as advisors and strategic partners with BC leaders.


The RSL works collaboratively with BC leaders and Account Managers to identify and develop project opportunities, create win strategies through deep understanding of sector, client needs/requirements, competition, and local drivers, and assist the BCs with building/developing teams to drive results and support anticipated growth.

The RSL is required to stay educated on the condition of the marketplace and associated technologies, vendors and other changes that would impact the sector.


Core Responsibilities:


  • Working collaboratively with the SL, other RSLs and the BC leaders across regions to support and drive regional business development pursuits including strategic proposal development for the sector and coordinating a core group of professionals to achieve business development and financial goals.
  • Developing and driving the sector Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) plans, budgets, and key performance indicators in collaboration with BC leadership and SL.
  • Developing and maintaining industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, subconsultants, competitor/ teaming partners, and potential recruits.
  • Coordinate and monitor regional network touch points for key clients for each relationship level.
  • Champion and conduct client surveys to capture accurate feedback and develop action plans to share the positive results and take advantage of the opportunities for improvement across the Business Line.
  • Attending selected conferences and maintaining active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships), as needed.
  • Participate/support recruiting activities to develop sector team.
  • Coordinate with and direct research and market teams to conduct market analyses.
  • Analyze results to aid in contributing to the strategic development of focus areas and client segments under the energy transaction market focus.
  • Investigate new business opportunities with internal and external stakeholders to refine strategy. Help to advise and inform sector growth areas, new hires and required investments to facilitate sector success.
  • Help to develop market positioning statement, projected market size, proposed geographic and sector focus and metrics to help baseline sector growth.
  • Remain current with the sector and market conditions, innovations and outlook. Facilitate sharing of market information throughout Stantec.
  • Develop/deepen relationships and partnerships necessary for the realization of regional and corporate energy transition strategies.
  • Lead and/or support proposals and requests for qualifications by leading/supporting development of value proposition, proposed vision, proposed work plan and identifying/providing related Stantec experience (supported by marketing, where applicable
  • Provide project management on specific relevant projects.
  • Provide core advisory/analysis role on awarded advisory and planning assignments including coordination with other stakeholders and business lines.
  • Support in the advisory role for grants specifically related to the energy transition and climate change sectors.
  • Coordination with Ontario's, Quebec's and Atlantic Business Development and Strategic Development Team.


Business development-related work will account for 60-70% of the working time, and project implementation work 30-40% (excluding the time dedicated to training / capacity building).


Corporate Responsibilities:


Given the Energy Transition sector is at the intersection of several corporate initiatives, this role may entail participation and support of these initiatives.


Areas where support is anticipated include:

  • Energy Transition support Energy Transition Steering Committee with corporate initiatives and preparation of analysis and reports as required.
