We are hiring one (1) Full Time, Temporary (up to 11 months) Flood Prevention Advisor position working out of our Aurum site in Edmonton, AB.


The Flood Prevention Advisor, through the Stormwater Integrated Resource Plan (SIRP) Secure program, is accountable for technical assessment of properties for flood prevention with the goal of providing increased flood hardening of residential, multifamily, institutional, commercial and industrial (ICI) properties.

The Flood Prevention Advisor will also provide input and assessment related to flood prevention as part of EPCOR's emergency management framework.


What you'd be responsible for
As the Flood Prevention Advisor you will be reporting to the Manager, Emergency Response & Flood Prevention.

Key accountabilities for the role include, but are not limited to:


  • Independently completing a technical evaluation/assessment of flood risk of residential, multifamily, institutional, commercial and industrial properties.
  • Independently determining the flood mitigation components and best practices a customer can incorporate to reduce the flood risk of their property.
  • Generating a comprehensive report following each completed inspection and providing educational material, technical advice and support to customers.
  • Inspection elements can include, but not limited to:

Outside Assessment:

_ Overland Drainage of Property; Landscaping; Driveways, Walkways, and Patios; Grading at Foundation; Eaves troughs and Downspouts; Rain Barrels; Foundation; Windows; Doors; Exterior Water Sources, etc.


  • _

Inside Assessment:

_ Sewer and Storm Laterals, Floor Drain; Backwater Valve; Foundation Drain (Weepers); Sump Pit and Pump; Exposed Foundation Walls, Floors and Cold Rooms; Finished Walls and Floors; Windows; Plumbing Fixtures; Additional Risk of Water Damage; Mold and Mildew Growth; Hazardous Materials, etc.


  • Supporting the execution of Flood Prevention Subsidies offered to customers by EPCOR.
  • Providing data, technical feedback and assessment of components of the Program to the Manager, Emergency Response and Flood Prevention.
  • Collaborating with fellow Technologists, Managers and Administrative Assistants; this can include:
  • Providing technical review and other expertise related to flood prevention to other operational and planning programs, as required.
  • Working in partnership with other sections of Drainage Operations as required on projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Accountable to the public and our customers

This can include:

  • Meeting customer expectations and provide timely and responsive service.
  • Appropriately managing escalated customers and follow up with all involved parties to ensure the customer is satisfied with the response.
  • Participating in customer and/or public engagement activities, such as project information sessions and community events, as required.

What's required to be successful

Qualifications, experience and behaviours you will possess are:

Education:


  • Completion of a 2year Diploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized postsecondary educational institute.
  • Certified Engineering Technologist with ASET.
  • OR_
  • Completion of 2year diploma related to emergency management.
  • Licensed Wastewater Collection Operator Certification at Level 2.
  • Experience that includes:
  • 4+ years in any of the following:
  • utility environment with a focus on wastewater collection and distribution and/or stormwater management
- site development and building construction services with a focus on residential, institutional, commercial and industrial facilities
- flood risk management and prevention services

  • Knowledge of the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a drainage collection system with a particular understanding of the sewer servicing of residential, multifamily, and commercial properties.
  • Proficient with DRAINS, Oracle, IVARA, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with the public.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit.
  • A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) may be required.
  • Limited to 6 demerits or less.

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
