Position Summary

Duties

  • Perform microsurgeries on animal (mouse) models, including administering anesthesia, preparing the surgical site, injecting fluids, and analgesics, installing window chambers (dorsal, femur, pancreatic etc.)
  • Assisting with novel window chamber installation surgeries and development of standard operating procedures
  • Inoculate mice with tumor cell lines via intravenous, interfemoral, or subcutaneous injections
  • Monitoring mice postsurgery, measuring mouse weight and recording tumor measurements
  • Train graduate students to perform microsurgeries
  • Assist with manuscript and grant writing

Qualifications

  • At minimum a Bachelors degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related discipline, and or Master's preferred
  • At minimum, three (3) years of related work experience with animal (rodent) handling, microsurgeries, standard cellular and molecular biology, and laboratory techniques.
  • Expertise with surgical skills of mouse femur, cranial, dorsal, spinal cord, and abdominal window chamber installations; animal perfusion; blood sampling; intraperitoneal and tail vein injection; subcutaneous and orthotopic tumor implantation procedures
  • Experience aiding in in vivo intravital optical imaging of tumors in small animals
  • Operation of fluorescence microscopes and confocal microscopes
  • Report writing, contribution to scientific manuscript preparation
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines
  • Meticulous and detailoriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
  • Ability to follow best laboratory practice guidelines according to institutional policies
