Detailed Overview:
Under direction, performs a variety of diagnostic tests and treatment information for interpretation by the Ophthalmologist, and carries out related duties


Responsibilities:

  • Performs static, kinetic and computerized visual field studies to map retinal scotoma by dilating the patient's eyes, if required.
  • Performs macular function studies and amsler grid tests.
  • Performs Tonometry, Tonography, and Provocative test for glaucoma.
  • Performs distance, near and pinhole visual acuity tests and tests patients for colour blindness.
  • Neutralizes lenses on the Lensometer.
  • Conducts the measurement of dark adaptation.
  • Prepares patients for Laser therapy by instilling medications for preoperative and provides postoperative care.
  • Prepares patients for fundus, flourescein angiograms and external pictures, takes the photographs, recording all patient data in an identification book and records pertinent patient information on the photographs.
  • Performs A and B Ophthalmic ultrasound procedures taking keratometer and potentiometry readings when required.
  • Arranges and confirms appointments for patients by telephone and letter. Files records and reports making photocopies as necessary, completes daily charge vouchers to go to Accounts and other related tasks.
  • Calibrates equipment and keeps it free from dust.
  • Performs other related duties.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience
Graduation from a recognized program in ophthalmic technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
