About this Role


Directions Youth Services is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for more than 90 years has provided a variety of essential resources for children, families and individuals in the Greater Vancouver community.

We believe in the resiliency of Vancouver's youth who are at-risk, homeless, and street-involved. We assist youth under the age of 25 to get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance issues.

Our teams strive to create spaces and build connections with youth who are facing challenges of street life, substance use, mental health concerns, and disconnection from their communities.

Directions, which includes shelter and drop-in, safe houses and other unique programs, is committed to being a community leader in harm reduction work and fostering low-barrier spaces where all youth are welcome.


Working within the mission, vision, values and person-centred philosophy of the Agency, the Program Manager is responsible for the management, quality, and supervision of the designated program areas as a member of the management team, the Program Manager supervises staff members, participates in budgeting and manages within their budget, as well as fostering relationships with funders and other internal and external parties.

The Manager will work with colleagues and co-workers in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve excellence in client centered care, within a complex and busy 24/7 environment that extends to the community.

The Manager actively supports the Agency's awareness and goals around justice, equity, truth and reconciliation.

MGP 5 $85, $94,945.50 annual salary range

Education, Training, Experience

  • Relevant Bachelors / Masters degree from an accredited institution in Social Work, Psychology, Human Sciences or other related field, with 7 years' experience in relevant domain, including 5 years experience managing and leading team members
  • Experience working with homeless and highly marginalized youth

Essential Responsibilities

Program Management

  • Communicate program/unit and budget strategic direction incorporating FSGV's vision, values and strategic direction and ensure integration into practice by interdisciplinary team members
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with government agencies and all professional and nonprofessional groups or individuals involved with the programs including relevant education bodies and grant funders

Program Planning

  • Assist the Associate Director in developing funding proposals for programs to ensure the continuous delivery of service
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate staffing patterns, rotations and vacation schedules to ensure staffing to meet client needs

Program Quality

  • Write reports on programs and services for senior management and for funders
  • Monitor program activities on a regular basis to ensure quality services
  • Develop and implement longterm goals and objectives to achieve successful program outcomes

Performance Management

  • Supervise program staff by providing direction, input, and feedback; regularly meeting with staff and team to engage, support, and mentor program staff
