Kitchen Assistant - Role & Responsibilities

Reporting to:
Manager of Program Operations


POSITION DETAILS
The KCW supports their assigned team with daily breakfast + snack preparation and delivery. This position will run from
Monday to Friday (excluding stat holidays)
8:00AM to 1:00PM, with no overtime eligibility. This position is a back-of-house support role in the kitchen and food service areas. KCW staff report directly to the site's Program Supervisor and KidSafe's Manager of Program Operations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with breakfast preparation, service, and cleanup according to KidSafe standard protocols and recipes
  • Lead snack preparation, service and cleanup according to KidSafe standard protocols and recipes
  • Manage KidSafe's allocated kitchen spaces including cleanliness, FoodSafe guidelines & protocols, materials and appliances
  • Enforce FoodSafe practices and protocols
  • FIFO all food supply, work within scheduled service times
  • Enhance KidSafe participant experience by providing delicious & nutritious meals for breakfast and snack times, as well as supporting Happy Plates Snacktivities onsite when assigned
  • Participate in any assigned training or meetings when required

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • A motivated, enthusiastic, cando attitude and an ability to work as a team player
  • Interest and/or experience working in food service settings such as restaurants, cafes, school cafeterias
  • Strong planning, organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • FoodSafe Certification

Job-Specific Competencies and Skills

  • Experience working with children and/or youth in a social recreational program setting, and experience in managing behaviours.
  • Proven ability for working independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to form relationships with parents and children who attend programs.
  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working in break time programs, such as summer camps or after school care programs.
  • FoodSafe, First Aid, and CPR certification are highly desirable assets.
  • Experience working with diverse populations as well as proficiency in a secondlanguage are valuable to this position due to the demographics that KidSafe serves.
  • Must have a recent, or be willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to the start of the program.
