SORCe

  • The CAA program serves as the primary intake & assessment for CHF funded housing first programs, and provides information, referrals, system navigation supports, and community connections to people who are experiencing or atrisk of experiencing homelessness. The objective of the program is to make meaningful, person centered impact that is agnostic to any particular program or service in the homelessness system of care or the broader social services sector. The CAA program aims to support the coordinated system in Calgary through preventing people from entering homelessness and/or reducing the barriers to sustainable housing for those atrisk or experiencing homelessness.
    About the Coordinated Community Extreme Weather Response
  • The City of Calgary approved funding from the Community Safety Investment Framework (CSIF) fund for the Coordinated Community Extreme Weather Response (CCEWR). It builds off last winter's Coordinated Community Winter Response (CCWR), this four year pilot is focused on:increased capacity for warming locations, hours and support for individuals who are unsheltered and seeking appropriate and safe shelter
-support community efforts to reduce barriers to accessing shelter through coordinated transportation
-build capacity through outreach coordination
-provide extreme weather essentials through a centralized system

What to expect in the role:_**
Job overview

  • This role is an exciting and unique opportunity to represent the Distress Centre's Coordinated Access and Assessment (CAA) at a temporary warming location while supporting a City wide initiative to support vulnerable people during the coldest months. The CAA Housing Strategist provides frontline service delivery to connect participants experiencing or facing homelessness to the Coordinated System of supportive housing programs in Calgary. The Housing Strategist role provides housing planning, housing assessments and connection to community resources. As a partner with the Extreme Weather response this role provides social supports in partnership with staff at the Journey Church warming location.
    Primary Duties
  • This is not an exhaustive list of duties, but meant to give you a sense of what you'll be doing on a regular basis. Other related duties may be required.

Providing social supports in partnership with the warming location Journey Church staff member- Support warming location staff and volunteers to monitor the space, support flow, identify potential risks, and enact safety and security protocols as required.- Attempt to de-escalate participant behavior when needed; provide crisis support to individuals who may be entering the space in a state of distress, and if possible safely address the need that may have triggered the escalation.- Provide access to communications where capacity permits.- Respond to opioid poisoning within the warming centre following Distress Centre practice and protocol.

Housing Strategist- Facilitate completion of standardized assessment tools in accordance with the Coordinated System CAA policies and procedures.- Educate participants and community partners about the CHF funded supportive housing program and the triage process.- Enter assessment data into the CHF participant database and update as required.- Complete a detailed housing plan for all participants and continue to support individuals and families in achieving the objectives of the plan.- Maintain contact with participants to inform about housing placement status and liaise with housing programs to facilitate warm transfers.- Advocate and provide up to date collateral on behalf of participants for housing placements within CHF funded housing programs.- Leverage Distress Centre programs at SORCe for ongoing support with resource and referral.

Warming Location General- Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with the Journey Church staff and in the community to ensure successful connections for participants.- Collaborate and coordinate with all agencies at SORCe when appropriate in the effective delivery of collective programs and services.- Assist with administrative or organizational tasks and other shared duties alongside the Journey Church staff.


Hours of work and conditions
General work hours are Monday-Thursday, 11am-7pm and Friday 11am-5pm- Not eligible for remote work- Working in a fast-paced environment requiring de-escalation skills and an ability to respond to crisis- Reports to the Distress Centre CAA Team Lead for day to day o
