A career as an Analyst or Associate in the Global Securities Finance team within the Repo desk at National Bank of Canada (NBC) involves trading securities and other financial instruments.

It means having a keen interest in the securities financing market and the repo operations.

In this role, you will learn about client transactions pricing, market, liquidity, counterparty credit and operation risk management as well as bank capital optimization.


Your Job

  • Overseeing pricing and execution of repo, securities lending, bond forwards, total return swaps, fixed income futures, interest rate and FX swap transactions with internal and external counterparties
  • Monitoring market trends, news and events to stay up to date with funding market and regulatory changes that may impact revenue generation
  • Monitoring and hedging of desk market risks; collaborate with other traders, risk management, and operations teams to manage liquidity, counterparty credit and operational risks
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to manage the trade lifecycle, resolve any issues, and ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain professional and close relationships with colleagues, clients and counterparties; communicate effectively both externally and internally to ensure smooth trade execution and settlement
  • Maintain and enhance working files and codes for desk positions, risk and PnL calculations
  • Understands Accounting balance sheet calculation, regulatory liquidity ratios (LCR/NCCF/NSFR) as well as capital calculations

Your Team


You will be part of the overall Global Securities Finance team at NBC, reporting to the Director of the Global Securities Finance.


Global Securities Finance is an integrated business model connecting equity and fixed income securities lending, repo, delta one and structured finance activities in one team.

Working closely with Treasury of NBC, we look to optimize the bank's liquidity position with regards to its use and availability of equity and fixed income collateral.

The successful and growing team has members in Toronto, Montreal, New York, London and Hong Kong.


Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, engineering, or another complementary discipline with at least one year of relevant capital market experience
  • Strong interest in repo and securities finance products and markets
  • Relevant experience with various money market and fixed income instruments is preferred
  • Excellent technical, financial and analytical skills, including extensive experience with VBA, SQL, Python or other back end and data focused coding languages
  • Attention to detail and strong risk management mindset; able to multitask, work with strict deadlines and make decisions under time constraints
