DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


In consultation with the Director, Student and Career Development and other Career Development Office staff, the incumbent is responsible for developing, promoting and implementing student outreach activities and developing meaningful relationships with the employer community through job fairs, information sessions and promotion of our services.

The incumbent will engage employers in a process of developing opportunities for Durham College students and alumni.

The incumbent must know the College, its programs, its faculty and student profiles and build on those internal networks and external links (professional associations, employer organizations, etc.).

The incumbent will be required to support Oshawa and Whitby campuses and also travel to other employer/marketing events.


The role also involves the development and implementation of a communication, marketing and event plan and outreach initiatives to faculty, internal departments, employers, job seekers and external stakeholders.

The incumbent may assist in conducting career development seminars and workshops, promotes employment possibilities. The incumbent also participates on campus-wide committees such as the Corporate Council to enhance our graduates' career development success.


Job Fair Co-ordination:


  • Coordinate large campuswide revenue generating Job Fairs virtually or at Oshawa and Whitby campuses aimed at giving employers easy access to qualified students and alumni (in person, virtual and hybrid).
  • Coordinate smaller career fairs, information sessions, and specialized employer recruitment events to provide students with various opportunities to network directly with key business and industry contacts seeking to hire Durham College students and alumni.
  • Liaise with internal and external event services to support job fair events and ensure they are executed smoothly.
  • Market recruitment opportunities to employers, track employer registrations online, and provide ongoing communication regarding event details.
  • Advertise and promote Job Fair events to targeted employers through various media, and internal campus stakeholders (students, alumni, faculty, staff).
  • Communicate with campus partner Ontario Tech to ensure shared campus events meet both institutions' needs.
  • Conduct postevent activities such as clean up, surveys, employer communication and followup engagement activities.

Communication, Marketing and Outreach:


  • Develop and implement an ongoing strategic communication and marketing plan.
  • Promote the Career Development office's supports and services to students, alumni, faculty, staff and employers.
  • Create, design and write promotional material and other communications to staff, students, alumni, employers and other stakeholders.
  • Social media strategy development such as branding, researching, writing, designing, planning, hosting events/interviews, marketing of our channels and reporting through use of data analytics (external and internal).
  • Campus marketing and outreach activities such as promotional booths, digital marketing, distribution of flyers, orientation and open house events and employer visits.
  • Create and post content for the Hired portal using a content management system; update content for Career Development on the college's intranet system for employee communications; update content on the college's corporate website; ensure social media is updated with department content.
