Polycultural Immigrant and Community Services is a multiservice organization committed to a holistic approach to supporting the needs of community members by effectively utilizing services offered by the agency and community.
Scope
The Children & Youth Counsellor is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and planning programs and social activities targeted toward children and youth's personal, educational, behavioral, developmental, and emotional growth.
This includes ongoing settlement counselling, information and referral provision, and group sessions' facilitation to address the needs and interests of eligible youth.
Also responsible for the creation of innovative youth programs that address the needs of the community.Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for children and youth providing ageappropriate activities
- Provide a full range of counselling services to children and youth including needs assessments and solutionfocused counselling
- Provide information and referral to internal and external programs and services, setting goals and developing a plan of action for every client
- Organize and facilitate clubs and afterschool programs that promote the development of life skills and STEM through the provision of a wide range of fun and mind
- Establish a positive relationship with all program participants, youth, parents and community members
- Maintain and expand client base through outreach, community presentation and itinerate functions, which include offsite visits, developing of outreach materials, and promoting community networks to link newcomers youths and other eligible youth participants
- Liaising and communicating with families, community partners and stakeholders, schools, and Polycultural's internal programs.
- Providing an environment in which youth can achieve an appropriate level of living skills, including problem solving, organizational and study skills.
- Effectively track services in internal and external databases and provide accurate reporting the for supervisor
- Manage any crisis situations and adhere to policy and guidelines for escalated procedures
- Must meet the targets set by the program manager
- Other duties as assigned by senior management
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Social Works, or Education and at least three years' experience working with diverse communities and youth or a combination of experience and education that fulfills the requirements
- Familiarity with issues facing children and Youth in Canadian urban settings and systemic barriers facing integration in education, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life
- Knowledge of immigration and refugee services and of the ethnospecific programs and services in the GTA
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds
- Excellent interpersonal, crosscultural written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated problem assessment skills
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
- Demonstrated individual leadership skills, with experience in taking initiative and program development
- Experience in outreach, community development, and marketing of programs and services
- Serve with purpose and care about that every voice matters however small(children)
- Standard First Aid with Infant/Child CPR
- Ability to work flexible schedules on an asneeded basis
- A second language is an asset
