Through consultation with the Dean of The School of Trades and Technologies, the Associate Dean is primarily responsible for the effective management of the programs assigned within the School's responsibilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, staffing, and managing resources for the School.

The Associate Dean provides a perspective and analysis of academic and educational requirements to Deans and the College's senior Executive Team.

While maintaining currency in the needs of the community employers and labour market trends, the Associate Dean provides contextual educational planning within the college and provincial mandates, priorities and directions.


The Associate Dean provides educational leadership in a proactive and consultative manner and recognizes the professional nature of the instructional role of faculty.

An Associate Dean promotes and encourages learning centred work, and the development of scholarship in learning and teaching within an inclusive environment.

The Associate Dean represents College of New Caledonia (CNC) on internal and external community committees, and in coordination with the Dean and Regional Principals at regional, provincial and national committees.

Increasing the success of learners is a priority, with a particular focus on aboriginal and international learners.

The Associate Dean's role within CNC is to advise the Dean on emerging trends in trades and technology programs in order to develop collaborative processes with faculty and program areas to modify and renew programs that meet the learner's needs.


NATURE & SCOPE:

  • The College of New Caledonia has public funding through the Colleges and Institutes Act, which identifies the roles and responsibilities of a community college within the Canadian and BC postsecondary systems. A strategic priority for the College of New Caledonia is to increase the success of learners, with a particular focus on aboriginal and international learners. The Associate Dean's role within CNC is to advise the Dean on emerging trends in reference to the School of Trades and Technologies programs in order to develop collaborative processes with faculty and program areas to modify and renew programs that meet the needs of modern learners.
  • As an educational administrator, the Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the School of Trades and Technologies and has responsibilities for the management, guidance, and direction of specific programs within the School. The School includes many of the SkilledTradesBC (STBC) apprenticeship, foundation, and ACE-IT Trades programs, along with Power Engineering and Technology programs that include Computer Networking and Civil Engineering. In consultation with the Dean, the Associate Dean will also be responsible for developing new or modifying existing programs and courses to be consistent with labour market, employer and community regional demands.
  • The Associate Dean will work closely with the Dean and Regional Principals on all educational aspects of the assigned programs both internally within CNC and externally through the development of strong articulation and transfer agreements and within the community and region stakeholder and advisory groups. This includes the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of courses and programs consistent with the strategic directions identified by the educational and college plans.
  • Faculty and program operational staff will report directly to the Associate Dean. The Associate Dean will be responsible for the recruitment, development and evaluation of all program faculty and operational staff within their areas of responsibility.
  • The Associate Dean will work closely with all departments of CNC, including other Schools, Aboriginal Resource Centre, Academic Advising, Accessibility Services, Admissions, Testing and Tutoring Center, Counselling, and International Education to ensure collaboration and barrier minimization for student access and success.
  • Upon the request of the Dean, the Associate Dean may be asked to represent the School of Trades and Technologies at internal and external stakeholder meetings.

Specific Duties


The Associate Dean provides management of identified program areas and in consultation with the Dean and Regional Principals, provides leadership in the program areas that are consistent with the overall mission and goals of the College.
