The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross' operations and projects worldwide.

Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT, Investor Relations, Exploration, Geology and Mine Planning, among others.


Responsible for managing and delivery of the Advanced Exploration program, including construction of the portal, decline and all surface infrastructure.

In this role, the focus is specifically on the AEX program to ensure timeline, scope and execution plan progresses, are completed on time and on budget.


Responsibilities:


AEX study Phase (2023)

  • Work closely with the Great Bear Project and Engineering team in managing the Engineering and Permitting consultants. Provide operational, design and construction guidance into work.
  • Review, approve, or modify system designs in coordination with the engineer and the Owners' team to ensure that they meet project objectives.
  • Responsible for coordinating with, and providing oversight of geology, mine planning and engineering.
  • Work closely with the site team and other disciplines within the Kinross organization to obtain input and seek feedback on major design aspects, ensuring constructability, costs and mining designs are optimized.
  • Provide input to the contractor and equipment RFQ process including vendors list; review RFQ documents and vendors proposals
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and preparing monthly reports, presentations, etc.
  • Review project cost estimates, scope changes and trends.
  • Provide input to risk register. Attend Risk review sessions.
  • Provide/arrange for HAZOP and ERA.
  • Lead the Development of the execution schedule including significant coordination with the permitting team.
  • Support the development and execution of the procurement plan.
  • Prioritize longlead procurement and mining contractor selection.

Execution Phase

  • Responsible for building a team for the execution of the AEX program (e.g. surface infrastructure, portal, etc).
  • Ensure quality assurance for deliverables produced by the consultants & contractors.
  • Lead the extraction of the bulk sample.
  • Interface with Exploration team on key target areas and underground drill plan.
  • Oversee the site construction of the AEX project both on surface and underground to deliver the project scope, building the Owner's Team as required to deliver on these activities.
  • Provide oversight of and guidance to the Construction Superintendent and Construction Management team.
  • Monitor progress of the construction deliverables and compare against the project schedule. Work with the contractor on mitigation plans where required.
  • Play a key role in building the operations and technical teams (e.g. survey, geotech, etc) to start underground mining while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values

GENERAL SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND COMPLEXITY

  • Anticipate potential issues before they arise and proactively develop resolutions working with the Contractors and the owner's team.
  • Problem resolution involving a high degree of independent judgement regarding the best approach in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible.
  • Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization.
  • Maintains awareness of and manages progress on deliverables compared to established schedule and budget.
  • Ensure project adheres to permitting regulations and applies Kinross operations standards where necessary.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements of the facilities.
  • Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:


Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a strong preference for Geology or Mine Engineering, or equivalent experience along with a minimum of 10 years' experience in the exploration and mining fields.

Experience constructing a portal and driving a decline (preferably multiple) in Canada and ideally in Ontario is required.


Working Conditions:


This position is located in Red Lake, ON, with frequent travel to Toronto, Thunder Bay, Sudbury and other locations as required (up to one week per month).

In this role, you will work a 5X2 schedule.
