FACULTY OVERVIEW:


Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is the fourth largest university in the province of British Columbia and serves communities in a unique regional environment south of the stɑl̓əw̓/stó:lō/Fraser River in the lands known today as British Columbia.

The name 'Kwantlen' comes from the Kwantlen First Nation in whose traditional territory the University is located.

Chief Joe Gabriel of the Kwantlen First Nation bestowed the name on the institution, resulting in Kwantlen First Nation and Kwantlen Polytechnic University having a long history of partnership.

The University's campuses are located on the traditional and ancestral territories of the q̓wɑ:
n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), SEMYOME (Semiahmoo), sc̓əwaθən (Tsawwassen), qiqéyt (Qayqayt), and kwikwəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Peoples.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The successful applicant will teach lower-level and upper-level courses on East Asia in some of the following areas:
Introducing Asia

  • Religions of East Asia
  • Cinema and Culture in East Asia (China and/or Japan)
  • Folklore of China and Japan
  • Ethnicity in China and Japan
  • Gender in East Asia
  • Special topics courses in areas of expertise
This position comes with some expectation of departmental and institutional service.

QUALIFICATIONS:


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

- a cover letter that addresses their areas of interest and qualifications
- a current curriculum vitae
- a one-page statement of teaching philosophy
- evidence of teaching success (including course evaluations and syllabi from previous courses taught)
- a list of three professional references able to comment on their teaching ability and academic accomplishments.


SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
