What you'll do

  • Existing Assets: Develops, updates and sustains Public Safety Management Plan (PMSP) related to public use around
BCH's Transmission, Distribution and Generation operating and decommissioned assets and around working rivers and
reservoirs where BCH operates. Assesses on-site conditions including assessment of the level of public risk and makes
recommendations for improvements or remediation. Confirms assignment of corrective actions with responsible business
groups; Tracks progress of improvement or remediation activities.

  • Capital Projects: Develops PSMP for new capital works and coordinates with other planners to integrate PSMP's with
construction plans and schedules, site specific management plans, environmental management plans, community
commitments and properties plans. Prioritizes medium and high risk hazards that need to be addressed quickly by the
capital project team for an integrated safety process and creates action plans to address those hazards. May be assigned
responsibility for all or part of a Public Safety Work Package.

  • Classifies public safety hazards at the appropriate risk level according to established risk matrices for prioritization and
mitigation and recommends to management for review and implementation appropriate control measures to lower the risks.
Consults with Public Safety Manager, Corporate Safety, Senior Public Safety Advisors and legal counsel where situations
are unique, complex or involve potentially high risk.

  • Participates in studies to determine the impact of major, large and complex programs and future power generation
facilities by attending meetings to provide input on public safety issues as these pertain to river system studies, river use
surveys, water use planning and transmission requirements.

  • Creates and maintains databases to house public safety issues, hazards and mitigation measures. Produces and updates
records and makes monthly reports on activities pertinent to public safety in all areas.

  • Acts as an expert resource to Hydro personnel, the public and other third parties with respect to public safety matters.
Provides instruction, technical direction and public safety training to employees at BCH facilities in order to transfer
applicable knowledge needed to address gaps within PSMP's.

  • Liaises with a variety of municipal or provincial government agencies, environmental associations, community groups and
recreational business interests in the performance of job duties.

  • Recommends and prepares new material to be used in various programs. Ensures adequate supply of material is
available for use and that equipment is in operating order. Develops plans for displays and works with contractors to build
the displays to meet requirements.

  • Monitors the Public Safety Electrical Training Awareness program by evaluating public safety program presentations for
delivery consistency and adequacy of training materials and providing direction to presenters to rectify procedural, delivery
and/or program content.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring

  • Degree in Health Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent field with three (3) years of experience in a public safety role; OR
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent field with four (4) years of experience in a public safety role.
  • Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's licence.
